Are there unemployment benefits? Social security? Free or discounted health care?
I know there are a few benefits such as housing for poor, retirement benefits and free health care at certain hospitals (Fatima Jinnah in Karachi??), but I am assuming that due to mismanagement and red tape, things take a while.
Re: What benefits does an average Pakistani citizen enjoy?
what benefits?
Pakistani people have tu que in line to get the basic necesseties of the life i.e. flour and fuel, they have to spent most of their time wondering when the eletricity will APPEAR./DISAPPEAR
Govt knew that there is unemployment in the country, few people were on job and few were not, so govt. made a plan to eliminate jobs by power cuts so that all Pakistanies shall stand on same side.
Because of the generosity of the ELELCTED GOVT, People of Pakistan does not look for benefits or relief of any kind, they are happy that somehow they can manage to live another day. The secret is in the minimal population, for that Govt has implemented a plan in which suicide bombers has been sent in different parts of Pakistan, Govt is also backing up political parties which back the ethinic terrorism and for sure all this along with cut in supplies of medicine is on its way.
What other benefit people of Pakistan should accept??? no we are not that greedy...
Most civilian and military personnel enjoy free health but apart from that you are really clutching at straws. The military men and women enjoy better health facilities because their hospitals (MH and CMH etc.) are usu. better equipped plus they have specialist units like Armed forces Institute of Cardiology, Ophthalmology etc. On the civilian side unless you can afford to go to a private or semi-private hospital like Shifa in Islamabad you are for the most part really putting your health at risk.
btw Fatima Jinnah Hospital is in Lahore
Re: What benefits does an average Pakistani citizen enjoy?
The government of Pakistan and the bureaucracy is made up of Pakistani people. They did not come from Mars. We must accept that we, as a nation, are corrupt. Nothing will ever change till we change ourselves and serve the country.
We serve foreign economies and lament that Pakistan has so many problems. This is hypocrisy.
Re: What benefits does an average Pakistani citizen enjoy?
^ very well said. there is a lot of initiative being taken by Pakistanis themselves to make a difference and not just indulge in drawing room politics or useless rhetoric. An example I heard about recently (and did post a link elsewhere on GS) is the Indus Hospital
www.indushosptial.org.pk
Its situated in Korangi, Karachi, serving a very under-served community. Its the brainchild of Dr. Bari Khan, a Pakistani expat settled in the US who wanted to give back to his community. It is a completely free-of-charge, fully functioning tertiary care facility for ppl who cannot afford health care. A team of the best local and expatriate professionals volunteer their time and skills to provide specialized medical care. We need more people like that
