Do you have a specific model in mind, or are you wanting an overview of Sony laptops in general? In all honesty, i'm not a fan of Sony laptops.... i think there are more functionally reliable and cheaper alternatives out there...
Having said that, it does mostly depend on what you're looking for and what your needs are.... it's no good saying you like the "look" of a laptop, and then it doesn't even fit to your requirements....
Crucial points to think of when contemplating the purchase of a new laptop:
What will you be using the notebook mainly for? (net browsing, word processing, gaming etc?)
Will you be carrying the notebook around a lot or be keeping it stationary most of the time?
How important is battery life to you?
How long do you intend on using this laptop?
Do you tend to work with a lot of applications at once?
How much are you willing to pay?

I'm interested in purchasing one from the Z series, but i haven't bought a laptop in a while and so i don't really know what I should be focusing on when making the purchase. I just thought of getting a Vaio, because there look is very unique, and they have great video feautures..

It's mainly going to be for school and work...browsing and watching video's
It'll remain stationary for the most part and battery life isn't that important.
I want to keep this laptop for a long time, as my last laptop lasted me like 8 years!! And yes I will be using lots of apps at once, and price isn't an issue!

^^ 8 years for a laptop.. wow thats sort of huge life span. :D
Sony vaio now a days have problem with heating. The main problem with sony Vaio is battery life. Thats very very short even if you take 12 battery lithium cells. or what so ever.

lol I know eh! I was shocked too...and it finally started dieing on me...so now i'm looking for a new one!

With that out of the way, I’m a big fan of Vaio’s. I’m currently on my 3rd and 5th. The third was bought about 4.5 yrs ago. Its a 1.6 ghz centrino with 1 gb ram. I can’t seem to let it go.
I just got a new one in June and its about 5 times the laptop of the above, have Win7 on it and I mostly use it for testing currently (till i can get rid of the old one). I LOVE the look of them. Had one which had built-in GSM and was never without internet. Z series is a good series as well. Even though they cost a tad more but I say got for it. (they even have pink ones 
)

I'm looking for a laptop too... mainly for home use. facebook, gupshup, msn etc etc...
Battery life should be good,and need to store lots n lots of pics so space too if it counts...
Company doesn't matter to me, as long as laptop is good..
And price wise, something not toooo expensive...

^^ with 65 posts and you mentioned gupshup as one that will be visied .. i see you a BIG on becoming a flooder aur GS is gonna strt rocking if you specialy getting it for GS lol
why not just buy a PC instead if its gonaa stay homee ..

I have hp pavilion for the past 3 years.. and not a problem. Just wondering if i could beat your record of 8 years with my current laptop.. lol.. still 5 more years to go :D
