Re: What are you reading?

"Yeh tairay pur israr Banday" by Mufti Rafee Usmani.

The alchemist moves slowly.......but I liked it :)

I found many of the ideas/philosophies interesting.

For example the main idea/philosophy that run through the book is that if you believe in your dream strong enough and want it badly enough.....then the whole universe conspires to bring your dream to you.

And there are other interesting thought provoking concepts. The ending has a nice surprise twist to it.

Re: What are you reading?

I am reading Karnak Cafe by Mahfouz. The novel was written by an Egyption writer and winner of Nobel Prize in Literature. It is a story of three young friends whose lives were shattered by the Egyption government during 1960s.

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished reading Brick Lane by Monica Ali

Re: What are you reading?

How did you like it Mano Rani?
You know I just saw the movie this past weekend -- OMG it was horrible

I've read the book, Brick Lane. It was tough to get through because it didn't capture my interest.

Re: What are you reading?

just start reading Disobedience.. by jane hamilton

Re: What are you reading?

Madame Bovary by Flaubert. So far, it's good.

I had heard so much about it so I was very eager to read it. I kept waiting for it to get interesting, or to even have a point, or for the main character to reach some type of development. I can think of a million ways to make that book interesting. I dont know what everyone was raving about. In my opinion the book and the movie were a complete failure.

Thanks! I sure will start reading it now :)

Re: What are you reading?

If you want to support your own Pakistani artists, I'd definitely recommend Diary of a Social Butterfly by Moni Mohsin. It's HILARIOUS. I had a lot of fun with it. It's good light reading.

Late reply, but do read it!
its really good, and as velvet mentioned, the main thought of the book is comforting!
and the last twist is a bit un-expected!

I had started The Zahir, and had almost finished it, but some problems just appeared out of no where.
i had real high hopes for it, and believe me, the preface makes it appear as if the book is a thriller, with a globe trotting story, but its not.
still worth a read.
what about other of Coelho's stories?? Eleven Minutes?

Re: What are you reading?

Brick Lane was OK for me...bit draggy at times and dreary kind of setting. I dont think i would watch the movie.

A book I would definetly recommend is Ishq and Mushq by Priya Basil. I thoroughly enjoyed it really funny in some parts.
