The majority of NRI Sikhs were not happy with what happened in 1984, but with the passage of time they learnt that Sikhs did participated in independent movement of India and sacrificed a lot and it is more beneficial for them to be with India than having a small separate state. They talked more about provincial autonomy than separation. There was a statement ‘Sikhs are not separatist, they have been separated’. I can relate this statement with small provinces of Pakistan.

1984 wasn’t an unprovoked incident like Babri 1991. It was final act of the entire tragedy that began in 1980. Secondly I never felt in entire life that Sikhs were ever separated, we have Parsi minority in India as well even Jews, why haven’t they felt separated? In reality, it was the Sikhs who wanted to get seprated when both Hindus and Sikhs are just one people and in many cases, in Khati-Aroras, half family might be hindu and remaining half sikh. I never understood this psyche of Sikh which even Jews never had in India
