What are the rules for bumping old threads?

Threads dating back to 2001,2002 etc etc… started by `some 'members?

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

hmmm i guess there are no rules. since i have seen members reviving old threads and mods not doing anything about them. so i am assuming there are no such rules.

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

it varies forum to forum.

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

wats wrong in bumping a thread?

if the same topic is to be discussed again......similar old thread could be bumped...

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

It depends on the forum.
It also depends on why the thread was bumped.

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

As Niks said, we deal with them on case to case basis. Over all, bumping an old thread is not an issue but people start quoting people who are no longer active and so forth. In such case, its a good idea to lock that thread and have guppies start a fresh conversation so active members can interact rather than with someone who is long gone.

Then sometimes people bump a useless, non topic thread just for the heck of it.

Now if a brand new person is bumping the thread then its ok in my book. Many people discover GS by googling a topic and come across a thread. To post in that thread, they register and wait for approval. Once they can post, they go and post in that thread. That thread could be a thread from 2001 and they are bumping it up but I like to let them as that particular thread invited them to join GS.

Another aspect is when a user bumped his/her own old thread. Someone talked about her marriage that was in roughs. 3 years later, she wants to update the guppies on how the things are. Its OK to bump that thread.

Re: What are the rules for bumping old threads?

In some ways I like it when some threads are bumped. that way if I see a stupid/silly post I made I can have it deleted.

Good for me, bad for some mods? :woho:
