since Lucknow is my home and my Dad was an avid Urdu poet, it was easier for me as i had the luxury of having a vast pool of Faarsii and Arabii vocabulary. i studied Faarsii ONLY in grade 10 and i scored the highest mark. i LOVED Faarsii. unfortunately, i couldn’t continue with Faarsii at university level.

anyone who knows Urdu, Farsii is much easier for him/her…Having the working knowledge of Faarsii makes Urdu shaa’irii a cinch/breeze!

from vocabulary point of view, you can’t tell the difference from the following she’r whether it is an Urdu she’r or a Faarsii she’r:
hazaar jaama_daarii, sad_hazaar baKhiya_garii
tamaam shorish o tamkiiN nisaar-e-be_Khabarii
Can you tell?

Is that asghar Gondvi’s shair? Then it has to be urdu.
