I can give the example of my own experience only. Make up I would not recommend if someone is going from a western country. However, if someone is going from Pakistan then the make up is a must buy. However, clothing prices are good for desi clothes mostly not branded clothes. I haven't seen any reasonable sales on branded western wear. The place is fab for desi fabric really. I bought velvet and silk for a much cheaper price than could be had in Pakistan and these are still going strong. Some Georgette I bought was Rs 28 per yard, yes, it happened some years ago but I could never find anything that cheap in Pakistan ever and I still have that outfit.
Honstly i never bought velvet or silk here but all other desi stuff is also double the price whether Its khaadi, nishat, bareeze, jj, or any brand.
Can someone living in dubai please also confirm if there are any set of non-stick T-fal cooking pots (degchaaz) available? I remember my parents used to buy theirs in Saudia Arabia; you know the red sized big one's with lids? here in north america it's really hard to find a big size non-stick pot for cooking. Any recommendations?
Better check the health reviews on T-Fal and non-stick cookware. Last I recall they were deemed unsafe. I know that since 2008/2009 there have been follow-up studies that insisted all was okay again but I fear that many such studies are largely "sponsored" by offending manufacturers.....and you know what that means.....
As for pricing in Dubai. I have yet to hear from anyone that says anything other than fuel is cheaper in Dubai.
I went to Dubai from the UK on march and have to agree that things are very high which I was surprised considering they do not have VAT. The only thing I bought and would defiantly recommend is buy gold!! There is no VAT unlike the UK so straight away you save 20%!!
Food is cheaper on some places like McDonald's, pizzahut n KFC in comparison to uk but not on make-up and clothes, uk is way cheaper.
You can get replica designer handbags, in the gold souk and some out door markets, if you are into that but otherwise enjoy the tourist sites and activities which cost quite alot.
Fuel is much cheaper, that's why taxis are very much cheaper then uk. Or hire a car and that will be good.
I'd love to go back to Dubai, in love the security and safety of the country unlike the crime ridden streets of the uk!!
Nothing, most of the thnigs are fake, watches are mostly replicas, make-up products are counterfeit.Lahore is wcheaper and produts are original if bought from famous stores.
Designer stuff is expensive no doubt, but regular stuff like fabric from bazzars, regular kind, not too cheap and not too expensive is very good. There are expensive malls too where shoes alone cost a fortune but I am not talking about things like that.
So wait wait....you girls are saying, all in all there is no point in going to Dubai if you live in a western country unless you need gold?
makeup and kapray are my life; which I won't be able to splurge on since it's double the price here or pakistan?
ok then scratching dubai off my list NOW

Not true, the fake things are only sold in the "naïf" area of Dubai and anything else that you pick-up from anywhere will be an original. I can't say the same about Lahore and cosmetics there either because Potpurri was selling MAC made in Thailand and trying to pass it off as the 'original'. :)
I'm waiting to go back to UK to do my clothes shopping....clothes here are cheap quality with expensive tags. Although, make up like Dior, Mac etc is £5 cheaper. Furniture and kitchen ware is also way cheaper than UK. And that's about it!

You go to Dubai for the "experience"..to marvel at the sheer excess and opulence, eat to hearts content and not have to worry about the halal/zabihah factor...save your money for the nice restaurants, activities like Ski Dubai, aquarium, etc, if you're there doing shopping festival you may find a stray good deal here or there, but don't count on a shopping spree...frankly, the selection is not all that great on western wear, and for desi kapray, you can get it in Pakistan anyway....

Yaar I grew up in the middle east so halal/haram is outta the system :D but knowing myself I am so not a sight seeing kinda person, so hence the lack of interest now :)
