There are sooo many things that I find absolutely amazing when it comes to nature, aviation, space exploration, etc. My question to everyone who reads this forum is what amazes you? I’ll start, and like someone else mentioned in an earlier post, little things amaze me, too.
Amazed by the atmosphere of the planet Venus - the planet is often considered the Sister Planet of Earth, yet the atmosphere resembles the same gasses emitted from active volcanoes, and the whole planet is surrounded by clouds that “rain” hydrochloric acid!
Amazed by the concept of “weightlessness” when astronauts orbit the Earth. Our gravitational field still has a very signifcant effect on a shuttle at that altitude above the Earth. However, since NASA was able to calculate the precise angle of the curve of the Earth, these astronauts are in a constant “free fall.” They are always falling toward the Earth - yet since the fall is curved, they won’t crash. WOW!
And those cars that are able to tell you directions. hehehe I could definitely use one of those;)
How right people think they are today and how wrong they are proven tomorrow.
Newton described his intellect compared to the wealth of knowledge out there as a pebble being thrown into a vast ocean of the yet unknown. Pretty humble unlike the razzmatazz scientists of today.
There's nothing absolute apart from the level of incomplete understanding.
well... nothing amazes me now... Once, when I was a child, there were many things... but not any more after having degree in Electronics and with strong background in physics....

This will sound stupid but it's the little things that also amaze me. On nature programmes on tv, they show unique biological characteristics of animals - say for example the blubber in whales that's used to store energy, to keep warm, and even to provide buoyancy. i never knew that. How everything in nature is so inter-connected that the tiniest of insects [dung beetles imagine!] play a role in the survival of a forest ecosystem, and without the shelter from canopies, ground vegetation wouldn't be able to thrive which means primates like apes wouldn't be able to survive. Stuff like that, that shows how connected everything is from the most minute organisms to the largest.
almost everything.. i marvel at the cellphone everytime i finish a call. or gaze into my tea wondering how on earth were we able to get the water boiling without fire..
Electricity. Without it we would have nothing. No lights, no computers, no planes, no industrialization, no cars, hospitals as we know then today.. the list simply goes on and on. If for just one day there was no electricity in the world, it would be a bigger catastrophe then any man has known so far.
I really enjoy reading these replies. RT Wolf - That reminds of me of when I was little and first saw my Mum use a fax machine. I asked her how the machine was able to suck all of those papers across the ocean and over to Hong Kong so fast! So as a child, even the fax machine was amazing to me -
For those of you who feel you have just seen/learned/know too much to be amazed, what about when you were little? When I was a child, the ability of flight amazed me. Not airplanes, but in birds. I was certain that if I only could flap hard enough, I, too, would remain in the air. Needless to say, we spent a good deal of time in the emergency room during that phase of my “discovery”
So, see, Nadia, those nature shows are not silly. I still like watching them, but I did quit trying to imitate them! hehe
Abdali - come on, there must be something you find amazing in all of God’s creations . . .
You ask, what amazes me in science, the answer to that question is: “Everything, especially the invention of fire and the wheel!” Who would have thought rubbing two wooden sticks together you could create fire? And, the wheel, what a novel scientific invention taht it goes around and around. Wow, what can I say? Sarge Booker
If they build a time machine ever ( and by time machine I mean the type which can transport physical matter from the present to the past or future) .. it might amaze me.
