Ok so Jr. has been giving us some grief over sleeping. We started solids in addition to bf but he still gets up every 2 hours. He used to sleep 6 hours straight as a 3-4 month old but after 6 months it is just weird.
We don’t have a bedtime routine or time because hubby’s work schedule is unpredictable and a lot of times we are either at his mom’s or mine. Pls let me know what else I can share so you guys can help me better. Thanks
I think you need to start the bedtime routine. When the baby shows signs of sleepiness, sometime between 7-9pm, start it. It could/should involve a bath, a feed, perhaps something soothing, rocking, or cuddling, just to get them drowsy. Bunny used to fall asleep with the last bottle (or nursing).
He will wake up and that's fine, but you need to start helping him to recognize bedtime. When he wakes up, limit interaction, feed, and put him back down. i eventually started doing a "dream feed". By 8-9pm she would be asleep, but before I went to bed, between 10-11, I would pick her up, nurse, and then put her right back down. I actually don't how necessary it was, but it did make it so I didn't have to pump, and maybe it helped her go longer at night. Eventually we just dropped the dream feed.
But there are always days or even weeks, where suddenly it doesn't work anymore. It could be separation anxiety, dreaming (tho I think he's too young for that), teething, etc that is suddenly disturbing him. When he wakes up in the middle of the night, say after 1am, try not feeding him and just soothing him back to sleep.
