what a sensational evening...

last quarter, rogers canada center, leaves vs penguines, leaves leading 4-3, 14 seconds to go, illegal body check, penalty-call made, game continued, already thrilled by sydney crosby’s performance, penalty-call ignored, game goes on, one pass, slipped by the penguines’ attacker, re-attempt, and scoredddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd with only 4 seconds remaining..

** and 4 rows up from the penalty box, somebody from audience gets a heart-attack**, game goes to over-time, and gets halted because of WHAT A SENSATION!!!

sighz during overtime period, leaves scored first and won the game, maybe will go all the way to the atlantic-conference’s final..

but oh well.. certain events’ sensations dont go away.. i was mighty young to remember the FEELING of the javed miandad’s last ball’s six.. and after more than a decade, whenever i watch that last delivery, i get goosebumps at the thought of the situation of that time, the crowd, the score, the nail-biting moments…

semi final of 1992 world cup… that was another one ..

1988, starting of waqar younis, watched this rookie taking up entire spotlight in sharjah, and then west indies visited pakistan.. i remember going to national stadium, to watch two people. . bishop and waqar younis playing different sides.. and i gotta tell ya.. when waqar used to take the run-up, crowd used to go wild..

wish i could’ve been in that SO FAMOUS “oval match” that put fazal mehmood on spotlight…

wish i could be present on october 8, 1956, detroit dodgers vs yankees.. or the 1980 olympics win of united states over russia in hockey..

after michael jordan’s FINAL retirement, i re-dugged his entire career’s highlight.. and was stunned in the end, when chicago bulls retired jersey#23.. it was one of the most emotional moments in sports history..

1998 my team won a canadian national title (on highschool level) of robotics by like 2-3 seconds margin … and some memories stick to u forever..

share yours

Re: what a sensational evening...

Most of you will probably not even know the teams involved in the most exciting sports event that I attended. But I'd like to share it anyway:

1/8 final of the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup between Rapid Vienna (Austria) and Sporting Lissabon (Portugal) in the season 1995/96:

Sporting had won the 1st leg in Lissabon 2-0 and everthing looked as if they would progress to the quarter final. Despite that a friend of mine and I (both of us Rapid fans) decided to go to the stadium to watch the 2nd leg in Vienna.

In the early stages of the match, Sporting was the dominating team. But in the 25th minute, Dietmar Kuebauer put Rapid in front with a stunning free kick, which meant 2-1 for Sporting on aggregate. And that's where the match became extremely excited. The atmosphere in the stadium was breathtaking and something that I had never experienced before neither have I seen anything like that afterwards. Rapid took the initiative in the match from that point onwards and Sporting was literally reduced to an eleven-man defence. The Portugese still managed to keep it 1-0 until the 93rd minute (3 minutes were added for stoppages). People had started to leave the stadium already when Christian Stumpf (Rapid striker) converted a corner kick just seconds before the final whistle.

What followed was 30 minutes of extra time full of celebrations during which Rapid scored 2 goals to win the match 4-0 and advance to the quarter finals 4-2 on aggregate.

After that match Rapid continued to be successful in the tournament and reached the final by beating Dynamo Moscow in the quarter finals and Feyenoord Rotterdam in the semis. And although Paris Saint Germain proved to be too strong for them in the final, it was one of the most successful seasons Rapid Vienna ever had. They also won the Austrian championship in 1995/96.

Re: what a sensational evening…

its been over 10 years since i saw niagra falls the way i saw that time .. evening time, getting dark, ghar say bhaag+chup kar gaye thay, was standing on canadian side of the falls, behind the falls (downstairs) and falls were falling in front of us.. and right in the middle of the observation deck, we were doing bhangra and making loud noises.. that was before they made “behind the falls” a paid item..

nice.. really worth watching :k:
