HOUSTON, Texas (AP) – Seven-year-old Noah Yates struggled so hard as his mother drowned him that his small fists remained stiff and raised over his head hours later, the medical examiner testified Wednesday.
Noah also had deep bruises consistent with someone holding him down, as did 6-month-old Mary and 5-year-old John, Dr. Luis Sanchez said at the third day of Andrea Yates’ murder retrial.
If she did indeed suffer from postpartum psychosis, then that's how she did that. I don't know if she did or not but I do know that psychosis is a serious medical condition. My MIL is schizophrenic and i would never trust a baby around her because she may very well act out what the "voices" tell her to.
schizophrenia is scary. God forbid anyone ends up with it.
i've been forever spooked by meeting firsthand a person that had multiple personality disorder and observing schizophrenic people. its one thing to read about it in a psychology book but another to observe it in real life.
They say she has a chemical imbalance.(well, thatz what my teacher said) and this andrea lady said that GOD told her to do that. what god is she talking about? not my god.
Only in a society that facilitates the profound exploitation of women and where there is pervasive spiritual dissatisfaction can this sort of thing occur...at least the lahori guy had monetary/socio-economic reasons...This woman was channeling her rebellion against years of exploitation and torturous expectations of being a sex object by massacring her kids...
There's a book called 'sybil' by flora schreiber about a true case from the mid 1990's wherein a woman had 16 personalities, some of them even men. she got cured eventually. damn scary but informative nevertheless, such people can become whole again if they've someone to talk to and get help from.
thanks shoor. but i wonder how psychiatrists or shrinks figure out that these multiple personalities have finally gone away? MPD is psychological and it cannot be empirically proven that the person has the disorder unless extreme personalities are observed. i dont know perhaps someone more inclined towards the subject can answer that or the book u mentioned.
yea it's true, someone who's more of an expert on the subject would know better about that. but what i made out from the book - which i read more than 2 years back so hope to remember correctly - is that the psychoanalyst or psychiatrist, like in any other case, has to win the trust of the patient, become a friend or confidant of sorts, and continue to be so even after the 'treatment' is over. more often than not, those suffering from mpd have had bad past experiences, have been victimized or exposed to wrong things at the wrong time. and basically - this being freud's theory - it's very important to tap into an mpd patient's thought processes, cos that's the root of the entire problem in a way. that's exactly what the shrink does, gets them to talk and eventually helps them to get rid of the personalities they don't need.
I heard the oldest kid had actually escaped from the tub but the mother still got him and drowned him. This is the scariest news story I've ever heard....mainly because it's the second time the same mother has done it to her kids. :(
