what a dilemma

My friend had a hard time in jobs like marketing or anything that involves talking to customers. Here is the reason. His accent is very desi, unless he is angry. When angry, american accent flows from his mouth and you would think he was born and raised here in the US. But offcourse you can’t talk to your customers in an angry tone. His regular accent is so desi, that only desi customers can understand, not a big help as biggest customer base here is not desi.

question is, how to resolve this issue?

Re: what a dilemma

Get a job that doesnt deal with customers?

Re: what a dilemma

Or go down to LA and become a cop

Re: what a dilemma

send him to accent reduction classes

Re: what a dilemma

Tell him to listen to BBC radio
Record some of his own sentences daily.......
Say em out loud and work on fiercely....
after a week: record it again, exact same words
Listen to the previous and new.....

Spend time with others without accent
or get wife to correct his accent nicely.....
if there is a wife and she doesnt have an accent too... ;-)

Re: what a dilemma

Cool. thats a great suggestion. He speaks great english when angry. COP is a perfect match

Re: what a dilemma

umm how about ESL classes? And ask him to focus on watching different american shows and focusing on accent and practicing. Start out slow, but slowly he will improve. Otherwise tell em to work behind a pc with no interaction at all...some people here actually LIKE that...hehe
and their mainly desi with accents :)
