It shouldn't be counted as a catch. Once you step out of the boundary it should become a dropped catch.

The PLAYER went outside the boundary line, not the BALL.
This is similar to the line calls in soccer and other games.

It is a catch as he got rid of the ball before he jumped over the boundary line and than came back and caught it again. Brilliant.

what a catch!!! I have seen players throwing themselves out of the boundary but preventing a six by throwing the ball back in the field but this I have probably never seen.

As far as i can remember it was in charity match in NZ where either an Aussie or NZ player took the catch similar way … i think it was McMillan (not sure though)

Both times it was against Kiwis, so Kiwis bring out the best in fielding in their opponents

great catch..it was even featured in American Espn sport center's top ten plays. it was surprising to catch a cricket clip on Espn.
