Western Union problems

I guess this is the place to put this thread:

I have been having so many issues with them this month and it’s so frustrating.

Beginning of the month, I made a transaction, and it had to be cancelled due to an issue on the recipient’s end. WU said they would refund it in 5-7 days. 10 days go by, no refund, so I opened a claim with my bank and received a temp credit.

Now, I made another transaction on June 27th. They sent me an email saying I need to call them to complete the transaction so I do. The agent says that I need to send them a copy of my ID? WHAT? I was already unhappy wiht the answers I was getting so I asked to speak to a manager, and was put on hold. The call was d/c and I had to go, so I dropped it.

I called back on the 28th, and the agent said it was ready for pickup.

I checked with the recipient, who went to collect it today, and she said that they would not release the funds due to it being under review still. Even though I had been informed that the funds were available and ready for pick up.

I’ve been using WU since 2009 and never had any problems sending money, hell even this year I didn’t have any issues until this month with the multiple checks and refusal to check. Their CS is horrible, out of all the times I’ve called, only 1 person has been helpful.

Anyone having issues with Western Union?

Re: Western Union problems

I stopped using WU because their online system is annoying and doesn't always work. Bank transfer is a nightmare. I started using Xoom. I was a bit hesitant about it because it was advertised on desi channels, but I've had a great hassle-free experience with them. The direct-bank transfer is the best, no hassle for me or recipient.

Re: Western Union problems

I'm assuming you used their online portal? If yes, there are far more checks in their online system due to state imposed rules in particular to "Pakistan". For other countries they are lenient.

When i use WU, i use one particular authorized agent who has got my profile all setup so anytime I go, no need to fill in the form. Just give name and the recipient (also in their list) and that should do it.

Recently UBL also stopped its "ublremit" online service from US to Pak due to same problem that the govt has imposed so many restrictions that its becoming impossible for them to work on that. They had such a swift system, i always luved it.

Yes i've heard good things about Xoom too. Heard they have good rates as well as its easy to use. Never tried it though.

Re: Western Union problems

I use their online portal pretty frequently. I only one had an issue where the portal failed on me at the last minute without giving me MTCN. When I called, they had little problem tracking my transaction as I didn't have MTCN.

Re: Western Union problems

WU has become really pathetic. Every tom dick and harry has their franchise and there is no check and balance on these agents. The agents are making their own profits. When the receiver went to take the payment the agents asked them to pay so and so amount first and then they would receive their payment (sometimes it was $30, sometimes $40). And this happened at quite a few different locations.

Using Xoom now - much better, hassle free and no thieves.

Re: Western Union problems

This is the problem with Unions. They give many many problems. Bust them up bigly.

Re: Western Union problems

Hmmm, seems like theres consensus about the online portal. Up until earlier this year, I would send $$ directly through an agent. I've never had any issues sending $$ thru an agent in person. The benefit Ithink of the bank account/online portal is that when I had to dispute it, my bank was able to issue me a credit.

Re: Western Union problems

Ok so, I ended up using Xoom to transfer the funds and had a great, smooth experience with them. the recipient received the $$ within minutes, and its cheaper than WU so yay

Re: Western Union problems

Have they flagged it as suspicious due to their money laundering policies? They're pretty strict with it.

Re: Western Union problems

not sure, i used it for years but never had somany problems. in any case, I'm not going back to them again, their CS sucks

Re: Western Union problems

Wu has some restrictions for sending/receiving money in Pakistan lately on top of them being a bit careless. The recipients here have a restriction of two payments per month..third payment, if attempted to check in the system by entering MTCN, goes back to sender instantly for refund or to be resent instead of it being on a hold until a month. xoom is avery good option for US and unbnetremit is a good option for UK instead

Re: Western Union problems

Guys try perhaps using transferwise.

Its actually very efficient and quick. Ive used it over 7 times in this last year and so far so good!

Theyre the people who created skype! & now have transferwise. Do check it out 👍🏼
