A Desi is another word for being National, hmm being a citizen, insider not, we don't really use Desi while speaking but I see it so commonly used on this board, here we mean a Desi is an Indian, Pakistani, hmm Bangali, those who originally come from the India before it was parted.

Hmm...you know something, both are neither right or wrong in any case except Ums and Nadia's statement. Why?
Think about it for a second. Today's western societal norm is tommorrows eastern societal norm. Question is who dictates these norms? East or West and which one is right in their lifestyle? All I've seen are issues of cleanliness and etiquette.
East and West, its a dual and a stupid one at that. Find some common ground and live in harmony instead of bickering about each other.
~Western desis are less cast/sect conscious
~Eastern desis are more so.
~Western desis are possessive about privacy and personal space; and are intolerant of relatives (as house guests especially) other than immediate family. (Sometimes the latter is included as well.)
~Eastern desis will welcome you to their house even if they have to sleep out on the verandah floor.
~Western desis (certain segments) are beginning to tear away from the post-colonial complexes afflicting the subcontinent. For instance in re-reading history, Western desis are surprised to find that Muslims were using baths, soap and herbal deodorants at a time when Europe considered daily body washing harmful.
~Eastern desis have a longer way to go.
~Western desis will never admit, if they do, to using Fair and Lovely to bleach their skin.
~Eastern desis will happily, and with and absolute lack of self-consciousness share their 'whitening' secrets with you, and have yet to realize the tragedy of this mind frame.
Western desis make fun of fobs.
Western desis have parents who have fobbish qualities.
This makes them confused. And often presents
them with excruciatingly embarrassing moments.
