We can blame the batting. Dhoni tendency to promote himself over others when it comes to death came to bite us. On one hand Dhoni acknowledges he is not the finisher of old. Hence he spoke of coming in 2 down to give himself time to build an inning (a term one should hate in T20 cricket for a number 4 batsman). OK. If 2 wickets fall fast , I can understand Dhoni coming in to steady the inning.
Yesterday when 2 wickets felll, only 5 overs remained. By Dhonis own logoc, since he is no longer the hitter of old, he shoukd have sent a Raina.or Pandya. Who can actually hit from the get go. Especially Pandya. He had 15 9fff 9 balls. Two were due to misfield. Not great for last 5 innings.
Even in small matches he does this..ALWAYS promotes himself. Rather than give others chance to succeed or fail.
There are players such as Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair who have done exceptionally well in the domestic circuit. They don’t even get a peek. While the Dhawans Rainas get chance after chance after chance
With 5 overs to go, there was no sense of urgency. Dhoni had onky one 4 in 9 balls. Not good.
In the last ball, Kohli could have gone for a 2nd. He was too busy raising his bat.
