Were things better when people had life long jobs?

You know people graduate from college, get a job and stay with that company for life. Were things better when people weren’t jumping from job to job and companies weren’t laying off people at the first sign of a stock drop?

Re: Were things better when people had life long jobs?

I would say that time it was better some one graduated or even got certificate started job and remained with the firm/company etc till got retired.
It had advantages, had uniform life , schooling for children , settling in one city/place was easy for them that time.
It was practiced those days as was appropriate then due to lack of professionals and manpower.

Now , trends changed, ManPower increased , more skillfull people came around plus most of the departments have been privatised and the potential clients are hiring/geting services on need basis which is proving economical for them.

I think if some one gets her/himself skillfull and steps in the field on the basis of his/her knowledge and skills he/she will be getting more opportunities plus he/she will be granted with value as he/she deserves.
So Job hopping gives better results to skillfull individuals only while the otherwise remains mostly losers.
