Were The Jews Without A State Before The "Creation" Of Israel?

contentious. amongst other explanations for the name:

that the name refers to the last great ‘killer’ mountains to cross when moving between the Afghan plateau and the Indian subcontinent, named after the toll it took on anyone crossing them;

that the name is a corruption of Hindu Koh, from the Iranian word Koh, meaning mountain;

that the name is a posited Avestan appellation meaning “water mountains.”

Wow, contentious? just like 9/11 will be in the soon? Regarding the word Koh, it is unlikely, since the term Koh is used in its proper, uncorrupted form for the western portion of Hindu Kush, viz. Koh-i-Baba, for the region Swat Kohistan, and in the names of the three peaks of this range, viz. Koh-i-Langer, Koh-i-Bandakor, and Koh-i-Mondi. Thus to say that corruption of term Koh to Kush occurred only in case of Hindu Kush is trying to fit an wrong observation into a more acceptable theory.

what can I say. you obviously have a politically motivated bias for believing in the first explanation and disregarding the other three. happy camping. that isnt my explanation, nor is Koh the only one. Sadly that wouldnt matter to u.

you could make your reference more useful by quoting the sources of your author, for example a survey or a scientific study, instead of citing an out of print book that could very possibly be trash.

I read the book and took notes from it. the author is a reputed historian and quotes extensively from Islamic sources from contemporary writings on the Bahamani Sultans to the Baburnama.

great. from ur notes then, what is the source of the 80 million figure?

Politically motivated bias? I guess the budhists and the hindus living there just packed their bags and left.

winters can be really bad up there.

WHy did the armenians leave or the parsis ? More weather related phenomenon?

WHo cares abut the past. Arabs need to cut their losses and a) convert to judaism or b) live under the proection of the jews and pay some tax for protection.

Yes, so amusing when one is not at the receiving end.

The extremist Shiv sena propoganda machine is in full affect as we can all see !

From a post on the zionist entity they have diverted the topic onto propoganda straight out of bal thackery machinery united!

Thanks for the laugh break, ak47, but the Indian context was introduced by non-other than you.

folks, folks, historical arguments hold relevance only in historical contexts. Enemies who have since then vanished themselves may be bad on paper, but non existent.

Similarly, what happened in Armenia, or to "80 million" Hindus, or in 500 BC in "judaea" is completely ridiculous as an argument for settling a present day dispute.

Surya, relax. you think that the mughals or whoever named the mountains Hindu Killer while remeniscing about recent exploits, I think it may have other sources, as does the encyclopaedia. You be happy in your beliefs, I will in mine

Truth hurts for some people for the Shiv sena supporters from al hind all i can say is have a nice weep!

who, specifically are you talking about?

great, so long as you remain vague.

its a gradual passage from ignorance to civilisation. we moved on. you still prostrate yourselves before animals and suckle their unmentionables.

just an aside, i researched that snippet attributed to the Prophet as recommending it for a disease. It is not from the sahihs, and thus, untrustworthy to the sect that it would hold the most relevance for.

yeah yeah, revisionist history does make you feel so very comfy.. but sadly most of what your trumpet blows is hot air.

almost all of the worth seeing monuments in india were built by Muslim rulers. go figure if we brought you backwardness.

as for pythagorean theorems, we were the ones who have pinhole camera images that can actually be dated as opposed to your supposed accomplishments :snooty:

You did not remain vague though, so we suckle the unmentionable parts of animals. Mudslinging can go both ways. And what animals do we prostrate before. Hanuman and Ganesh are the two dieties that you are probably referring to. Hanuman literally means 'a person who has a face like a monkey'. He was Lord Rama's escort and even though not the handsomest of all people, he symbolises the absolute devotion one should have for God, at all cost. Ganesh too symbolises the absolute devotion one should have towards one's parents and is also a destroyer of evil. All this dieties (diffeent aspects of the One God) and different symbols were weaved into folklore so that they would be able to reach the masses, who were not necessarily intellectually inclined, and make their living more moral.

Different dieties have also been symbolised with having different animals as their vehicles. This is the major reason why flora and fauna has been conserved in India. It is also to remind us that no matter how great man becomes all creatures on earth are God's making. So please do some research before you start abusing anything.

AK, it is a wrong interpretation that Islam spared Hindus. The fact is that Islam could get expansion only in dark, uncivilized areas, after Arab societies to central Asia and in Africa. In India it faced a halt. In Spain, in a more advanced country Islam was totally out rooted.
The fact is that the civilized world has always rejected the notions of Islam.

For British tactics for an Israel, I think you are right. The British knew that only Jews could stand the Arabs in a nice way, and would not take double standard for religious hotchpotch.
[/QUOTE]

Well, Islam was not outrooted from Spain because of its weakness against Spanish civilization. Islam stayed in Spain for almost 700 years and finally Muslim emperors had to leave after a historic defeat in late 15th country. Now to say that Islam was outrooted from Spain because Spain was an advanced country and therefore, it rejected Islamic civilization is a mere distortion of history. I would like to present some facts to keep the record straight.

In fact, the period under discussion (5th century to 15th century) is known as Dark Ages in European history. One way of confirming my statement is by looking into any major history textbook that categorically describes the evolution of science, law, and politics. I challenge, that you will find a gap of almost 1000 years (if not more) between all of the major European inventions and scientific discoveries. For instance, lets talk about famous scientific discoveries. You will find the names of Greek scientists i.e. Archimedes (founder of famous Archimedes principle of Buoyancy), Pythagoras (a Greek philosopher and mathematician and founder of famous Pythagorean theorem of trigonometry). Following the Greek scientists would be scientists of 15h century i.e. Newton, Galileo etc. The same pattern can be observed when you will look into other subjects i.e. philosophy. A logical question comes into mind what happened in between ancient Greek times and 15th century? Well, that is the Dark Period in European history I was referring to. Nothing happened in whole Europe in terms of scientific, political and economic advancement with very few exceptions. And you are calling Spain and Europe of that Era a modern country?
Not that I am biased because of my Muslim background, but the fact remains that during those dark ages, the only civilization that was making advancements at every front was Muslim civilization. Muslims did a lot of work in mathematics, science and philosophy and I can cite tons of examples. Jabber Hayyan, Khawarzmi and Ghazali are just few names and if nothing else, one can do google search to learn about their caliber. Anyway that is the answer to Anjan’s comment when he called Spain a modern country and portrayed Islamic civilization of that time-period a backward civilization.
And to say that Islam did not make his way through Spain is absolutely wrong. Islam stayed there for 700 years and as a matter of fact, Muslim empire in Spain was one of the most glorious empires in whole Islamic world. Even today when you go to Spain you will find remnants of Arabic time-period. Not to mention Mosque Qurtaba, one of the most fascinating mosque is still present in Spain. So I have no idea where did Anjann find out that Islam could not made into Spain.
Now making a claim that Islam did not make into India….huh…I don’t know what to say about this……On a lighter note, if nothing else, the fact that this website is owned, maintained and managed by “Muslim Individuals” with all of them belonging to subcontinent clearly indicates that Islam made some impact on India….
On a serious note, I would like to clear that in my opinion, most of the wars between Muslims and Hindu rajas were fought for the extension of their respective kingdoms and not to preach and spread Islam. Warriors from both sides used religion for political reasons. So killings of millions of hindus in those wars has nothing to do with expansion of Islam. All of the Muslim warriors do not represent Islam. Babur, Mahmmod Ghaznavi did not come to India to spread islam. They had their own motives. So it is my request for my Indian friends to analyze stuff in its true perspective.

Islam in India was spread by Sufis and no one can deny that. The overwhelming presence of Hindus at Nazam-ud-Din Mazar at delhi and at Moeen-ud-Din-Chisthi’s mazar in Ajmeer Sharif even today is the clear proof of my claim. And I know my Indian friends know that very well…..
