I like this idea.
But how do you boycott a service/product/company and make it known to them that this is why you are doing it?
Very politely, but firmly, is all I have at the moment! I'm going to discuss with my wife on how best to approach this. I think a flat out explanation of the facts, as perceived by the offended. The point to get across is that it is grossly insensitive and that it may well have a negative impact on their marketing objectives.
re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
Look guys if you are objecting because of religious reasons, I can't argue .. me being mushrik *and all. But in my view if they *do donate and if the money does feed even thousand hungry survivors for a week, than IMHO it would be worth offending the sensibilities of all prim and propah types.
This line of argument degenerates quickly. I won't bore you with the slippery slope, but the bottom line is that women in bikinis is not a necessary precondition to solicit funds for aid. And if that's what it takes to get aid from certain people, then quite frankly neither the community at large and no doubt most of the victims, (many of whom are actually fasting no less), wants the aid. Yes, I realize that line of reasoning too leads down a slippery slope. But there is an asymmetry between directly receiving aid from such an event, and receiving aid from a government that presides/allows such events, or worse, to occur regularly.

The timing sucks......not just because of the flood but because of the month of Ramadan.
And nobody needs to educate me on the way these events are planned.....I know that venues are booked a year or so in advance......but we knew of Ramadan being in this month more than a year ago, right?
I'm sure that the organizer could have saved herself a great deal of additional negative publicity if she had gone to her suppliers/partners/participants and post-poned the event citing extenuating circumstances (i.e. the flood). Heck, she might even have garnered some sympathy/respect.
Budnaam jo hooon gai tu kia naam na hoga?
You missed the point. Aaj kal controversial issue ziada publicized hotey hain specially ager beech main "islam" kaa naam bhee aa raha ho tu. Wait till some maulana sahab say something and CBS, CNN, CITY-TV and who-not will line up out side her residence to take 5 min interview....
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
actually no, I didn't miss the point.
to suggest that she is doing this to gain notoriety through negative publicity will be giving her too much credit.
have you read her blog?
she almost considers herself a soldier in the army that will liberate Pakistani women ..... she believes in her cause....... honestly she does.
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
Is it just me or do they all look like pornstars? None of them are really beautiful...
you noticed too?
is it the make-up? the attire? the "come-get-me" poses?
why is it that beauty is no longer associated with humility or innocense? (this may be an entirely separate matter for discussion)
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
Oh good it ain't just me. Yeah their poses and their clothes were....err...well pornstarish. They aren't beautiful. Now there are Pakistani girls who are drop dead gorgeous and they can keep their clothes on. Its amazing!
Sex sells. Look at Indian movies if anything. Look at the world in general. Judgment day is coming soon and I got my doomsday placard all ready.
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
So would it have it been OK If that beauty pageant would take palce at some time other than Ramadan? As far as I can reckon such things aren't very Islamic to begin with. So why does it matter to some people If it's Ramadan or not? Not everyone is religious you know? Not everyone is Muslim either...Live and let live.
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
give them a break guys...lets have em all the char din ki ayaashi...then it all be fire.
ps. ironic part is we believe that we are better than them...well I believe we should focus on our deeds first.
perhaps you are right......it will be all fire and brimstone......but in the process of having their chaar din ki ayaashi what impact will they have had on our lives and the lives of our future generations here? how will their actions affect the reputation of Pakistanis around the globe? just some food for thought.
and I don't know what gave you the idea that we believe we are better than them.........I certainly have not made that judgement at all........

Zapa........yeah....I think they have the right to do what they want but if they are professing to represent the "Islamic Republic of Pakistan" then perhaps they should be a little bit reverent towards the religious observances of the majority of the population.......
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
I dont think it matters. whats the pageant gotta do with the floodings. theres oil spill in america, theres earthquakes in japan, theres landlsides in china, forest fires in russia, so what? do we hear those people asking for events to be cancelled due to these unfortunate incidents. theres no correlation between the two. leave these wana be porn stars alone. they are sick, but its nothing to do with the floods. we cant associate everything with the floods. heck, the damn government of pakistan isnt doing anything, so why should some porn star in toronto care.
we need to stop blithering on about muslims this and islam that and whatnot. someone who is participating in a pageant where they reveal their entire bodies wouldnt really care if its ramadan or not right?

point taken.......
but then the organizers should know better than to engage in mud-slinging against those in the Pakistani community that they so valiantly claim to be working for. perhaps they should show some respect to get some respect.
I mean let's rip away everything and just leave the business case......wouldn't it be a smarter business move to not tick people off?
Re: "We're doing it for the Pakistani community." - Miss Pakistan World Organizer
my opinion is that if your doing this to represent your country, then you should be aware of the issues that are going on in that country that you are so proudly representing. By having this contest as a "positive thing" because "everyone is depressed", to me, it just shows that you're ignoring the needs of the people of the country you're representing. Its basically casting the whole issue aside and letting someone else deal with the problem while you have your fun.
As a proud Pakistani (Muslim or not), one would want to help out their fellow countrymen in their time of need instead of participating in these frivolous events.
There is a time and place for everything, and this, obviously, is not the time for it.
