Ron Paul: We’ll occupy Pakistan, too

The helicopters that landed in Abbottabad won’t be the last to put American troops on the ground in Pakistan, says Rep. Ron Paul.
**
Calling the relationship between the United States and Pakistan an “impossible situation,”
the Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he sees an occupation of even greater scale than Afghanistan on the horizon.

“I see the whole thing as a mess, and I think that we are going to be in Pakistan,” he said. “I think that’s the next occupation and I fear it.** I think it’s ridiculous, and I think our foreign policy is such that we don’t need to be doing this.”

**And Paul doesn’t have high hopes for that mission, if it happens.

“It will probably be very unsuccessful,” he said.**

Paul, a noted non-interventionist, said the United States has created a civil war in Pakistan and violated the country’s national security.

He also addressed the idea of conspiracy theories popping up about bin Laden and the raid.

“How many stories have we heard already about the killing of bin Laden,” Paul asked. “I mean, people are supposed to know what their government’s doing. If you ask me exactly what happened, I have no idea because I’ve heard so many stories.”

Asked by “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski if he had just floated a conspiracy theory himself, Paul flatly said “no.”

“I think the inept policy invites people to think about conspiracy theories because we don’t get all the evidence,” Paul said. “I think there will be plenty of conspiracy theories because we’re presenting facts that we’re changing on almost a daily basis.”

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Ron Paul is a republican presidential candidate

Re: We’ll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

America we are waiting soldiers of ALLAH and his RASOOL SAW are waiting to hunt you down

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

RON PAUL IS SUCH A WAR MONGER.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

He seems to be against the war as per his interviews

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

of course, republican candidates have to pull up something big now. Their century old argument of "democrats are weak on security" will not work now after Obama got Osama.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

SOMEONE NEEDS TO WARN RON PAUL ABOUT THE LIMITS OF AMERICAN IMPERIALISM.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Where is your "/sarcasm" tag?

He is not "suggesting" occupation of Pakistan, he is 'fearing' that it will happen because of what US has been doing in the region.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Exactly , the title of thread is misleading.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

i dont do sarcasm tags.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Thats the title of the interview, he is feeling that Obama's policies are going towards that, and he is also saying that the Americans have almost created a civil war situation in Pakistan which is also right.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Ron Paul probably implying we will make Pakistan like an Indian Reservation..........:D

American Indian........that is!

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

I know... I was trying to find out if you were sarcastic or not :D

Re: We’ll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Ron Paul: US Faces Dead-End Occupation of Pakistan
Wednesday, 18 May 2011 10:14 AM
By Hiram Reisner

Rep. Ron Paul warns that U.S.-Pakistan relations are so perilous that he believes the United States could be sucked into a quagmire of occupying Pakistan. Repeating Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” his claims that the United States should have gone after Osama bin Laden differently, the Texas Republican also said U.S. methodologies have created a civil war in Pakistan.

“The relationship with Pakistan — it’s an impossible situation.** Here’s a country that we worked with them, George Bush worked with them, and we captured a lot of bad people, brought over the people responsible for the first bombing of [the World Trade Center] — but now you say we can’t work with them anymore**,” Paul said.

“But, we keep bombing them — we kill innocent people there. How can we at one time take a country and pretend that we recognize that they’re our friend, give them billions of dollars to do our bidding, at the same time we kill people over there? And then the people resent this, and they turn against their whole government,” he said.** “I see the whole thing as a mess, and I think we’re going to be in Pakistan — I think that’s the next occupation — and I fear it. I think it’s ridiculous and I think our foreign policy is such, we don’t need to be doing this.”**

Paul said that, when he talks about taking down bin Laden differently, he is doing so in the context of U.S. foreign policy and not “in the fact of whether or not we should have gotten him.”

**“I think what’s the real tragedy is that we didn’t get him 10 years ago when we could have, and should have,” Paul said. “We now have spent a trillion dollars, we’ve lost 5,000 people — our soldiers — in fighting two wars that had nothing to do with bin Laden and, to me, we have to reassess the foreign policy, just like we have to reassess our economic policies here.”
**
**Paul was asked whether he had information the United States was planning to occupy Pakistan.

Paul responded that he was basing his statements “on what has happened in the past . . . and all the unintended consequences, and what we have done, and how we are spreading, and the attitudes that have been pervasive in our government for the past 10 years — that we have this obligation to spread our goodness and protect our financial interests.”

“Right now, Pakistan is a big problem,” Paul said. “We have created a civil war there, in the fact that we go over there and we violate their security, and the people rebel against the government because they see their government as being a puppet of the American government.
**
“So it’s total chaos — and I am afraid we will be in Pakistan trying to occupy that country, and it probably will be very unsuccessful.”

Playing With Fire In Pakistan

by Ron Paul

While much of the country’s attention is on other issues, a serious situation is developing in Pakistan that threatens to plunge us into another fruitless and bloody war. It is very frustrating to see that many who were so vehemently against the wars of the last administration have suddenly lost interest in foreign policy simply because we were promised change.

Those still paying attention know that nothing could be further from the truth. Very little has changed, except perhaps rhetoric, but what does that matter when the bombing missions are only getting deadlier? Rather than drawing down violent military interventions into the affairs of other countries, the new administration is escalating the foreign policy of the previous administration.

**In Pakistan that entails the continuation and even escalation of military interventionism just across the border with Afghanistan. The targets are believed to be enclaves of Taliban militants, however, many innocent civilians have been caught in the deadly crossfire, severely damaging our image in the region. Many ordinary Afghanis and Pakistanis that never had cause to take up arms against us are being provided with motivation as family and friends are killed and maimed by our clumsy and indiscriminate bombs. Is it worth it for us to be involved in this way at such a high cost of blood, treasure and goodwill? Is there anything to be gained by this policy?

We are helping the Taliban and other enemies to actually gain numbers and strength, while driving them down from the mountains in the border regions deeper into Pakistan, where they have been making a menace of themselves. As our bombings follow them, beleaguered villagers have little choice but to leave their homes and join the swelling numbers of refugees or take up arms and join the fight against us.**

Nonetheless, instead of recognizing the cascading unintended consequences of trying to deal with Pakistan’s problems, all signs in Washington point to further escalation.** Both the House and Senate have newly introduced bills to triple foreign aid to Pakistan, from $500 million to $1.5 billion, with every indication that the leadership in Pakistan is taking advantage of the situation with the Taliban to milk more aid from the US taxpayer. We are broke.** This is money we don’t have, and it is an insult to the American people to run up the national credit card for this type of military adventurism after many Americans thought they were voting for peace.

The bottom line is our involvement in Pakistan’s internal problems is not making us safer. In fact, we are adding to the numbers of our enemies and increasing the threats to our security here at home. We are inciting the very terrorism and extremism we are trying to stop. Every dollar we send, even if it is for humanitarian purposes, frees up resources to make war and potentially prop up unpopular leaders. The factions and politics of the Middle East are irrational and dangerous.** We play with fire when we meddle in their affairs, and we isolate ourselves diplomatically by making more enemies than friends.** We need to bring our troops home, end all foreign aid, and maintain a neutral stance on the world stage. It, in fact, is the only foreign policy we can afford right now, and it would gain us more friends and trading partners than our bombs ever could. Besides, that’s what the Constitution permits and our founders strongly advised.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Ron Paul is the only person that is a True Republican and follows the manifesto of Republican party. He is the best person to save USA. He is presidential candidate for the 3rd time. He has strong non-interventional policy. Infact his last presidential debate against war was in even cut by Fox News.

Few things he wants to do as a President:
Get rid of the Federal Reserve Bank and bring back the gold standards.
Get rid of the income tax in US.
Bring troops back home from all countries.
Make US as non interventional state.

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

well it was strange for me to read his interviews as being a republican i thought that he should have been more pro war

Re: We'll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

Interferring in other countries is a Democratic/Socialist Behavior. Manifesto of Republican party says American should mind its business and should care a DAMN about other countries. But these days Republicans are following Socialist agenda that is poking nose in other countries.

Infact, Bush during his presidential campaign was following Republican agenda, When he criticised Bill Clinton for Interfering in Somalia and demanded troops withdrwal from Somalia.

Re: We’ll occupy Pakistan too-Ron Paul

oh yes that conservative Bush. :hehe:

I think it has more to do with which party is of the South as I guess they need to measure their dicks after loosing the civil war. An economical reason might be that the south is less developed relatively and military support jobs like building ships or manufacturing missiles brings in needed bucks to the folks.
