Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

Hi everyone.

I just want to know how is a degree that is from an external university regarded as in the job market. I am not sure how exactly to phrase this so I shall list some examples.

University of London (UOL) external programs. Banking, finance etc degrees conducted in Hong Kong, Singapore completely in the way it is taught in the original UOL campus. Degree certificate is also from UOL

Royal Melbourne Institue of Technology (RMIT) business degrees conducted in overseas Unis. like in Singapore.

James Cook University (JCU) Psychology degrees in Asia.

MBA in Dubai from Middlesex University.

So, all these degrees are legit, and actually well respected. The certificates are also signed by deans/chancellors of the main unis (JCU, UOL, RMIT…)

How do employers view these degrees? Do UK/US employers think lowly of these kind of degrees???

Re: Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

Well no disrespect but the British universities you have wrote are ranked pretty low. Employers don't care what campus you was in as long as the university is reputable.

How about RMIT? Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology?

Btw I did think UOL is a gd college- I know so many people doing external finance degrees from UOL!!

Surprised that it's not a reputable British Uni

Re: Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

its a very reputable university, some of its colleges are the best in the world London business school or University College London (UCL), and back in the day my old haunts of Imperial College which has since gone independent.

UCL was just ranked #4 in the world behind MIT, Cambridge and Harvard. London School of Economics was in the top 100 worldwide as well. former University of London part, Imperial college is counted as among the best engineering colleges in the world and current part of university of London, London Business school is very highly ranked for its business programs. currently #4 globally for MBA behind Stanford, harvard and Wharton.

The one big point is what college are you in because they do operate quite independently and while the diploma is from university of London the quality and image ranges between the institutions. While University of London is great, which college you are from makes a difference.

example in US terms would be university of california system. Berkeley vs UCLA vs Davis vs Irvine vs santa cruz etc etc. even here many ppl just tell you they went to university of california, without going into details of which uni in the system they actually went to, but can be asked.

summary

1) university of London overall is a highly regarded uni with some truly stellar colleges
2) that does not mean that the external programme is considered the same
3) positive halo effect from all the great rankings helps the university and all its constituent colleges and programmes including the external program me

either way, University of London in itself is very reputable, go for it. its better than most other options around you.

Re: Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

UCL is awesome but UOL is a colleges of universities. Some are awesome some not so good. Depends which one you pick.

Re: Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

RMIT is a reputable university. I know it's one of the best for engineering, IT, architecture, media, finance and accounting . Top 100 in world and top 10 in Australia.

If your looking for one that's ranked higher, I guess Monash has many campuses around the world too , it ranks higher. Pretty sure it's ranked in top 1 percent. Not sure if they have distance learning.

Re: Well known Unis and their overseas campus (somewhat distance learning)

UoL does not have the same reputation anymore. Many off the good college's have left it. UCL grads can chose to have their degree's awarded by UoL or UCL and no one chooses UoL anymore.
