Welfare in Islam...

Just wondering…
In an Islamic state…what means of welfare are there?..i understand that very individual is guaranteed food, clothing and shelter…how are these implemented…are these basic needs provided for free or like a discount…like housing benefit…and also are there other forms of benefits…such as job seekers allowance and thinks like that?..
Also for old people are there such things as pensions in Islam?..
Jazakallah…

Re: Welfare in Islam...

^ In fact you have been asking good questions in this section. Before writting anything, I'd wanna ask you what do you exactly mean by "warfare". Does it mean "possessing weapons individually" or "for the military purpose"?

In Islam there is a concept of "Bait-ul-maal" which is sort of a source from which any needy can be benifitted. The concept of welfare in todays modern world is different, and none matches what Islam prescribes.

This is a very broad and excellent question yaar. For this you have to look at a very broad picture, look at society as a whole. There are certain principles that are observed while dealing with the economics of a society in Islam.

for example, in Islam, those factors are already condemned which help flourish poverty, and joblessness etc.

Islam stop everything at its root, at its start.

He meant welfare, as in Zakat, social benefits, altruism e.t.c....

Re: Welfare in Islam...

ooops, sorry, I read warfare.... damn, my apology

One thing and a very simple thing is "Whatever in access in your posession, give it out in the name of Allah"...... it is written in Quran. (I forgot the reference)....

I'll write more later......

Re: Welfare in Islam...

zakat (taken from muslim citizens) and jizya (collected from non-muslim citizens) are the taxes that the citizens of a muslim state have to pay....

the government does provide for the necessities, ofcourse depending on its resources....

Ameer-ul-momineen, Umar Faroqq (ra) once saw an old jew working and asked him why he works in such an old age....
he said he has to work to be able to give the jizya, which made Umar (ra) realize that they have taken tax from these men when they were young and now that they r old, the government shud help them....
hence old men were relieved from the tax payment and instead provided with pensions....

during the rule of Khalifa Umar bin Abdul Aziz (ra), the bait-ul-maal was used to provide housing for all needy people, and arranging marriages for all those who wished to get married, making roads etc....
he started off his rule at a state when the bait-ul-maal had to take loan from citizens to provide the basic needs (military, police etc), but the "welfare state" so flourished that during the later periods of his rule, the bait-ul-maal wud be overflowing and the government cud not find any means of spending them....

Re: Welfare in Islam...

Islam has the best sysyem of welfare.Zakat, sadqa kheraat are all kinds of benefits.Zakat is given to deserving people and there are 8 asnaf(categories) of zakat.A person who is jobless and has no money for food tc will fall in one of the categoriesof zakat so does pension for the old age individuals,

Islam encorages people to work and earn legally(halal) and those who are poor are helped by the fortunate ones

There are forms of loans in islam Qarz-e-hasna is one of them which is the best form of discount no finance scheme can be better than this one if a needy person wants some money he can take qarz -e-hasna from a person and he can return that money whenever he will be able to return that or if the person would not be able to return the money the lender will not ask him for the money.Since Islam is based on trust and belief so it is basically a mutual agreement and is there to accomodate the needy.

Ask these questions from scholars of Islam to have no doubt in your mind.
