With unarguable logic, he stated that had Pakistan scored 1300 runs in its first innings, dismissed India for 35, then made India follow on and bowled them out again for 33, Pakistan would have won the Test. He further added that this victory would have given Pakistan an insurmountable psychological advantage over its arch foe, on a par with the 6 runs Miandad scored off the last ball, which cut across the Indian ego like a scythe and left mental scars for years to come.
Alas, Pakistan could not muster the 1300 runs required for an emphatic victory, and it was left to the usual suspects to provide long-suffering Pakistani supporters more of what they have become used to - defeat from the jaws of victory.
