Weird

So I have come across so many desis, that too from same country (won’t mention that, lets just keep it general), who think its ok to do things of all sorts before marriage & then go around portray themselves as religious & when asked why such double standards & hypocrisy, they start twisting & turning Islam & try to prove & justify themselves. The way they give justification that its ok to do this & that is quite astonishing & that too by quoting Quran. I mean i get that its their life their choice & what not but why you are twisting & turning Islam for your wrong doings? If you don’t have morals & modesty, then admit it that you are committing sins instead of making a fool out of yourself & using religious attire to conceal your shizz I meann… seriously…

I really think I will get bashed for creating this thread… just a prediction…

Re: Weird

I second this.

Re: Weird

Can you give any specific examples of what sin was justified by what Quranic arguments?

Re: Weird

Hmmm I have come across many who do all of the above you mentioned with one exception, they don’t try to justify it with religion. They just live a double life. The life at home consists of going to the masjid, praying, being respectful, and naik. The life at university consists of clubbing, dating, drinking, talking smack about everyone, fake nice in front of the person they just laughed at the day before, etc. etc.

Re: Weird

I firmly believe that one, as an adult, can do whatever they judge as appropriate as long as they are not harming anyone. However, portraying then as a religious person or acting as if they never did it, its not just the hypocrisy. Its criminal. No one is angel. We all have committed atleast one bad act in our lives but hiding under the shelter of religion is the worst part.
And OP is right, the trend is far high among desis. But overall it exists in almost every culture/race/nation. Its the modern norm.

Re: Weird

yea..they drink and stuff…but blame their siblings when they do the same..right?

Re: Weird

If someone is doing prohibited things and pretending they not doing it then i would count that as hypocrisy. However, if someone is doing few things that are prohibited and at the same time are also abiding by few Islamic/shariah laws, then that’s doesn’t count as hypocrisy.
People going to mosques, respecting others, giving charity etc etc and the same people clubbing, dating, drinking- i wont term them as hypocrites as long as they are not pretending to be all “Naik”.

Re: Weird

I commit various sins daily but don’t justify them. However, I’ve known some people with quite an intricate defense mechanism to deflect guilt/criticism regarding their lifestyle. First of all they would preemptively dig the dirt on those from whom they fear criticism coming from. Some would hate religious Muslims with a passion for the same reason. Secondly, they don’t believe in Hadees or sayings of the prophet(pbuh) because according to them they are neither divine nor authentic. Their view is that if something is not unambiguously prohibited by Quran, it is allowed. Also would quote fringe interpretations of verses to support their pov. For example, they view alcohol to be only discouraged but not prohibited. Similarly they view only adultery to be prohibited but if the deed is between two unmarried consenting adults then it is only discouraged. So on and so forth.
