Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

Some of you from the 80’s era might recall Simon O’Donnell.
His profile at :

He was the member of 1987 World Cup winning Aussie side and is now a well-known Cricket commentator.

His cricket career was cut short by Cancer -which he was diagnosed with immediately after the 1987 World Cup.

Now here’s the question - Does anybody know what kind of Cancer it was ? I googled the question but to no avail.

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

if I am not mistaken it was stomach cancer. Still remember his very first game after the recovery.

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

Stomach Cancer...are you sure ? It is one of those cancers with mostly bad prognosis.
Don't want to turn this thread into a Cancer discussion though. Would be interested if anybody has a reliable source to the answer to this question.

On a related note, I recently discovered that Malcolm Marshall died of Colon Cancer about 8 years ago. For some reason, I thought he was still alive.

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

Stomach cancer indeed has bad prognosis.
The only thing I remember is watching his come back match several times since I recorded it when the highlites were shown on TV. For some reason I remember commentators applauding him when Miandad was caught at point of his bowling, talking about stomach cancer and his remarkable recovery.

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

^So you are sure it was Stomach Cancer ? 100% sure ?

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

Malcolm Marshall died of cancer which was diagnosed while he was incharge of the windies team during the 1999 world cup. He was taken ill during the tournament and was diagnosed having cancer and died shortly thereafter.

Simon was diagnosed with cancer but can't remember which one it was.

Re: Weird Question - I hope somebody has an answer

Probably it was early 90's when I last saw the highlites of his comeback game, so can't be sure of something that old.

For my curiosity sake, I have emailed steven lynch of cricinfo regarding this thru cricinfo feedback request form. I have contacted him 3-4 times in the past as well and he is pretty good in replying back with the correct info.
