Re: weird parenting
^My mom never slapped us..... she used to run after us with a hanger lol and would hit my back with it sometimes but she never hit any of her kids in public or slap us on the face, even in private.

Re: weird parenting
Typical desi parenting! .. Escalator se nahin lagi toh main khud maarti hoon haha
Re: weird parenting
mia: lol at hanger.. hahaha... my mom too :D lol... she would run after us kid around and around the dining table :D
but my mom never slapped us on the face.. sure our butts got it sometimes.. but no other body part... and in public.. no way! mom firmly believed in bachay ki bhi izzat hothi hai... by hitting them in public, you make them dheet.
sweet: that is honestly what it looked like!
Re: weird parenting
I have actually seen a girl fall off the swing and hurt her arm (later we found out it was broken) and while she was crying her mother slapped her zoor zoor se in the back saying "shok pura hogaye tera" .. This was in Denmark :p
Re: weird parenting
i wonder if its the first reaction for some ppl.. utter utter relief that your child is not hurt and you show it in an angry way? letting out relief with anger? i dont know if that makes sense.
denmark bhi tho ek pind hi hai na. all of europe is.
Re: weird parenting
I think its the anger and relief all together, shown very weirdly in desi people.. cuz I have yet to see a danish do that to their kids in public
Re: weird parenting
its like russel peters said... a white kid could curse their parents out but if we even dared to think of it, our parents would kill us :D
Re: weird parenting
^So true:D
Re: weird parenting
ok those of you who are parents, have you ever reacted like this:
scenerio: a girl of about 5 or 6 yrs of age is coming down an escalator... her mom is in front of her .. the girl is a bit hyper and her mom is scared she may fall... the escalator descends and the mother gets off.. the girl all hyper tries to skip down the stairs to jump off, nearly falls down the remaining stairs but catches the edge rail... finally lands safely to the ground.. gets off the escalator but slips and falls face down on the marble flooring
the mother catches her... asks her is she ok... clearly the mother is shaken... but .. teh girl says yes i am ok.. the mother then slaps the daylights out of her for being a jackass i guess... and says janwaro ki tarha acting karo gi yehi hoga.. agar lag jathi tho?!!!! * followed by even more slaps... clearly the mother was relieved that her daughter was ok and not hurt but.. it just made me laugh at the fact that ... it seemed like all the slapping meant *oh you didnt get hurt by the escalator, that was a good miss.. but let me slap you just incase cuz you missed out on getitng hurt initially!
does this kinda parenting make any sense to you parents out there? would you be so relieved that your child didnt get hurt that you would slap them to show your relief? isnt it better to tell them off.. something like.. see thats why you should stand straight when going up or down an elevator..
honestly... it made me lol at the mother.
Can't say anything about the mother....I've left judging people. :D
Re: weird parenting
Making the child realize that he/she made a mistake that should not be repeated, is important but slapping in the face and that in public may have negative effects. If I were the mom in that scenario, I would have made sure about child's well being (like she did) and then in a firm and stern way would have asked her to behave herself. if there is no change is behavior then may be some spanking (at home) would be needed.
