i have this strange habit of putting salt on almost every dish that i can..my family tells me i eat way too much salt..when they can taste the salt the same food tastes bland to me..does anybody else have this problem?
Re: weird habit..
Its not a weird habit. Its not a habit at all actually...! Its actually a craving. Your body tells you you need it and your taste buds cooperate.
There could be several reasons for this. First, you need to realize that most of the foods we eat on a daily basis already contain enough quantities of sodium and to top them off with even more salt easily means you're over doing it. This is not healthy. If you live in the US, on an average, most people eat over 15 pounds of salt a year and that is already too high a content. This can cause high blood pressure, kidney problems etc in the future.
If you've recently started doing this, perhaps since a year or so, there could be several reasons. Your body had not been getting enough minerals it requires and thus you're craving more salt so you can satisfy that deficiency. If so, replace salt with other natural herbs and spices and your salt cravings will stop.
If you've been doing it for a while, it could be a subtle disease. Such bodily cravings could mean many things. You should observe if you have other symptoms. Diabetes, blood pressure, headaches. If if doesn't improve, a blood test should be done.
To stop these cravings, eat fresh fruits -- some that are high in Vitamin C.
As I mentioned earlier, replace salt with other herbs and spices.
The easiest one you can do right away, is to change the salt you use. Get a different, iodized one (which your current one probably is), check the label. Some salts have over 80 minerals in them. Use that salt. Your body is probably low on natural minerals and trying to get them from salt intake.
Give yourself a week or two. Consider the alternatives above. Remember, the body is a very intricate machine. Little problems are signs you can easily fix -- pay attention to them.
Let me know how you feel in a few weeks.
Take care of yourself and stay healthy.

Re: weird habit..
I used to put salt on a lot of things growing up, but in the last few years I stopped doing it cause I realized too much salt isnt good for you, no matter how good it tastes. You get used to less salt eventually. If you really feel the urge to put salt, try lemon instead (on certain dishes).
recomended salt intake per day is 6mg. 6g of salt is about a teaspoonful. This is not a large amount, especially when you consider that 75% of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy.
0.8g of salt in a roti/naan bread/pitta bread
portion of deep and crispy pizza** 4.1g**
a pot noodle 3.75g
0.5g in a slice of bread
a 1/2 can of baked beans has 1.4g of salt
a 1/2 can of Spaghetti hoops 2g
A bowl of Rice Krispies/Cornflakes contains around 0.65g
packet of crisps 0.6g
Pizza Hut Italian Pizza Plus (pizza, potato wedges, cheesecake)** 9.7g**
KFC Variety Meal (three chicken pieces, two hot wings, Colonel's Crispy Strip, regular fries, regular diet coke) 6.3g
Burger King Chicken BLT Baguette Meal (chicken BLT baguette, regular fries, regular coca cola) 4.8g
McDonalds Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal (quarter pounder burger with cheese, medium fries, medium coca cola) 3.2g
In a typical day, someone eating the most salty foods would consume 24g of salt.
