So…for every1s whos saying that these ladies are jealous (and i can easily understand why!)…what abt the aunties who pick on the moti larkiyan? where does hte jealousy come in there? what do they got to be jealous of? ![]()
Re: Weight Issues
having two eyes doesn’t mean you gonna see two different pictures of the same things. ![]()
Re: Weight Issues
I've faced the same in the past, especially during high school and early college years. I was always skinny and never cared about what i ate, although i was never a soda/junk food person either. My younger sister (actually all silbings) is the same exact way. She's 5'4" and is a mere 90lbs and everyones always like :-0 you're so skinny blah blah, but never in a condescending tone, but she gets annoyed by hearing it so often nonetheless. She EATS like there's no tomorrow, and masha'allah more so than i do and i eat a lot :-D
I've actually been on the other side of the fence as well, when i gained weight about 3 years ago, and it was the heaviest i had been all my life. I didn't realize it until i couldn't fit into my jeans, so that was a moment disbelief cuz i was a good 20lbs over my usual weight. Alhamdulilah, i'm back to where i was before with a little bit of fluctuation -/+ 2lbs.
Anyway, as long as you are comfortable in your own skin, that's all that matters. You're family/inlaws/fiance don't bug you about it so it shouldn't matter what a random aunty says. I know a very sweet aunty, she's soooooooo petite and does not look beyond 35 even though her son (24) is getting married in march, she looks awesome for her age and her size. So don't let people bug you :-)
Re: Weight Issues
they’re just biotches, sara, and pushing your buttons because they gain pleasure from someone else’s discomfort. i love the classic “its only for your health/benefit” line ![]()
Re: Weight Issues
In that case, its usually not jealousy its just having an easy target. Older desi ladies are just plain mean.
Re: Weight Issues
Some of these people are just plain mean.
They get pleasure out of hurting other's feelings.
Re: Weight Issues
I think it works both ways…penalised for being ‘skinny’ and you are penalised for being ‘chubby/fat’
My daadi has always said that I won’t get married because I am ‘moti’ and that it is a shame because I am clever, come from a good family…blah…blah…blah…She actually said she was embarrassed of me once:bummer:…And in Pakistan it was where is that ‘lovely healthy girl gone’…there will always be not jealousy I would say but this ‘I-am-better-than-you’…some weird quick/sadistic pleasure that people get from putting another person down/belittling them…A superiority complex?oooo that youa re not so perfect…I dunnnooo but whatever it is I suppose I will lump it…people aree ntitled tos ay what they want at the end of the day but what people don’t realise is the impact of words…sometimes they are so profound and hurt…
Shay…your naturally thin…healthy I presume as you eat what you want etc…ignore them…
I wouldn’t be rude etc…be politet/nice to them etc and that will probably irk them even more:cb:
I’ve learnt the hard way that life is too short to worry about such things..beauty is in the eye of the beholder.we get worked up about the people that don’t matter and tend to neglect the one’s that do matter and make us who we are:)
Re: Weight Issues
I agree with you guys.. thank you for the replies.. if my mom says it, which is very often by the way, it’s understandable because it’s out of motherly love even though she KNOWS I have inherited from HER (she was 85 pounds when she got married). But for all these aunties to CONSTANTLY say it to me, it gets to me after a certain point. Ok so you’re bringing it up once but for them to sit and discuss it like no tomorrow, it’s like wtf is YOUR problem? When I was younger, I kept hearing how noone was going to marry me because I was so skinny. Now that they know they can’t say that to me anymore, it’s taken a whole new turn. I refuse to believe that it is out of ‘love’ or ‘care’ or ‘concern’. Noone who I have barely met twice or thrice briefly is going to develop that much of affection towards me that they will sit and worry about my health. It’s purely out of entertainment and like some of you said, they are just plain mean and enjoy making others miserable.
This one girl (she is 25) who is married to my cousin used to make comments about my weight too. Until I kept hearing her how she was dieting cuz she wanted to be skinny and I said, oh, and you pick on me for not weighing much when you’re aiming for the same thing? It’s sad that people don’t realize that I am not thin out of my own wish. It is something natural that I am born with and nothing I can do will make it better. My doctors have clearly told me that you will start gaining weight once you hit 25, especially once you have kids. My mom was 85 pounds in her younger days and she had 3 kids without any issues.
I need something to hit these aunties back with. The you’re so fat should have done the trick but it would be a lil mean I think. Sajal’s reply about ‘teaching them the trick to become skinny too’ had me ![]()
Re: Weight Issues
akh i feel your pain
i used to be really skinny and all these aunties would attack my health allthe time ....but i'm petite so if i gained weight it would look bad!!!......these aunties never stopped and i got so conscious of my weight thinking that maybe i look too young for my age and some girls even got annoying , but they never got it through their heads that i'm petite and tiny naturally!....so i started eating more and now i feel like i gained too much weight grrr
Re: Weight Issues
Really? its a desi mentality? I thought it was just part of a pessimistic, miserable personality....
It could be a combination of both :D
Re: Weight Issues
My father gave me a tip that I'm still thankful for till today. I was in 5th grade and over weight (not like adnan sami or anything) and he told me to quit my 3 fav things. I quit soda, pizza and chocolate. I think 4 months later without any exercise I was hotter then a boiling pot of paki curry.
Re: Weight Issues
^i.. uhm.. can't do that. right now, i am skinny, after doing what you just told me to, i'll probably just vanish into thin air. my munchies are what keep me on the ground!

let it be !!!.....don't try to gain weight
sometimes you just naturally gain weight , but just leave it and let time decide for you
Re: Weight Issues
i hv just read the first post only
for a moment i thought i m dreaming, i have seen this happening this to too many ppl, but actually ur the 1st one discussing it. bravo
I have too many things goin in my mind know,
"i have the solution but i dont know how to put it into words"
some poeple talk, some people stay quite
some people go physical, some people go phcycological (i dont know how to spell the danmm word lol)
they actually inherit that, its not their fault, its not your fault
its actually the environment they have been thru
ok i need some tea know, my brain wheels are spinning really fast know, lol
some people make judgments on looks, some judge by the way u act react and think
so if u come across the 1st lot, u know what happens
but when u come across the second lot, they observe the character before makin any judgment, includes ur finance. they dont give danm about the looks.
i hv noticed alot of times ppl notice what i wear, they read to me even the logo s on my T-shirt which i never even noticed before and make comments about how me or some one else look. but some of them ask me how are u, how was ur day, how was ur eid/party.
All depends on how people think.
so, there is really nothing u can do but to stay patient and confident about ur self. those people cant help it, they are how they are and they think how they think. Thats doesn't mean that they are devils or bad characters like in movies lol thats just the way they are
rather u should be very grateful that you have such a wonderful finance who supports you. think of some one who doesn't have any support, i know few poor fellows
there is a saying or some thing cant even remember properly that"Great Minds Discuss Ideas; Average Minds Discuss Events; Small Minds Discuss People.
"
