Weight gain during pregnancy..

Ladies, how much weight did you put on during your entire pregnancy?

And is it easy to lose all of it after delivery…How long does it take to do that?

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

Every person is different. I think average gain should be around 25 pounds, more or less depending on whether you were normal/underweight/overweight when you became pregnant. Check with your OB-GYN. I gained almost 40, but I also had a lot of water retention and was eating some junk. This time I am much more careful in terms of what I am eating, trying to eat good at least 75% of the time.

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

hmm, well I was 100 lbs when i got married, and suddenly i gained 20 lbs. i guess hormonal changes. And when i had the baby...i was 140 lbs. After the baby about 6-8 months later i went down to 130 lbs, its still too much..so its steady. btw, i didn't exercise.

I have heard people gain 60 lbs during pregnancy and it scares the crap out of me...but then I look at these women with no extra weight watsoever and just their tummies sticking out...makes me wonder how they do it!

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

i have gained about 10kg so far and still got 3 more months to go....

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

First pregnancy I gained 20lbs, and the second one I gained 31lbs.

^Did you lose it all Niksik?

I have heard that after your first baby...your body just goes back to pre-pregnancy body...but after the 2nd one there are more prominent changes?

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

It is definitely different for everyoneAlishaht.....I gained around 20lbs for each... i don't put on weight that easily and i snapped back to my normal size quite quickly after giving birth...... but i did regular exercise whilst i was pregnant also, albeit lighter than the usual army regime workout ;) i did yoga and pilates a lot which helped.....

Prominent changes after the second one - For me, not really, though i'm now a lot more 'top heavy' than what i used to be if you know what i mean ;)..... apart from that i saw no dramtic changes..... it may go downhill for me with the next one, whenever that is :)

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

Every person is different. I put on 60 pounds, which is just over 27 kilos!! I'm also quite tall .... of course, the doctor would tell me every appointment that I was putting on too much weight. That was just my body though .... I ate healthy, but ate excessively healthy foods.

My son will be 6 months in a few weeks. I've already lost 50 pounds. It melted off. Got 10 pounds to go. Inshallah, this will come off soon too. I wasn't breastfeeding so I'm surprised the 50 pounds just melted off.

The guideline that the doctors say is you should gain between 25-35 pounds. I've heard they are going to lower that to 15-25 pounds!! Honestly, it's BS. Each body is different. Like I said, I put on 60 and have already lost 50 pounds. I'm nearly 5'9" so I packed on the weight.

As long as you walk throughout your pregnancy, stay active, and don't eat junk food, you should be ok.

With the first one, I only had 4 lbs to lose after I delivered! Got done in a few days. The second one was much harder also because I had put on more weight and I think I had more responsibility with 2 kids so I focused less on myself. After a few months, I did start working on taking it off and it did take me a good year and a half to go back to pre-pregnancy weight.

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

I was 125 pounds when i got married and reached 185 lbs by the end of my pregnancy , mashaalah my daughter was 10 lbs 2 oz when she was born. I quickly loss to 145 lbs within 2 months after my daughter was born but the last 10- 15 lbs was most difficult to loose, I went to pak for 3 months and did the protein diet and I managed back to 130 lbs. I have gained 5 lbs since then and my daughter is now 2 yrs old (btw my height is 5.8)

It's good to know that you guys finally got back to or close to your original weight. I am actually almost 3 months into my pregnancy and have gained about 2 kgs already which was bothering me since people were telling me they usually lost wieght in the first trimester. I tend to gain weight really quick. I just hope I get back to my weight soon after because my body structure doesnt allow me to carry too much weight beautifully... :s

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

i was 112 pounds before each pregnancy and i put on 34 pounds during the entire pregnancy with both pregnancies. after i delivered i lost about 14 pounds, then 7 pounds after the 1st month , the last 14 pounds i slowly lost within 6 months this was due to eating healthy smaller portions more ofton. definatly have breakfast, and a little exsercise i usually do earobics a couple of times a week for about 20 mins. so you can lose the weight if you have a goal to reach. my incentive was to fit back into my old clothes as i had a few suits i absolutly loved and wanted to wear !!!!

Hey, you are the not the only one Alishaht. I am 4 months Alhumdullilah. I used to be 8.5stones and now i am 9.2stones. DAMN!! I try and eat healthy but do treat myself to few packs of crisps...oh man!!

I'm hoping to breastfeed and i have been told your muscles contract when you do and the weight comes off easily. I am hoping to do that inshallah. I am also hoping to incorporate some daily exercises too - we'll see!! Easier said than done!

Congrats Alishaht.. Mashallah i'm sooo happy for u!

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

sheeny- Same here! I would love to fit into my stuff from shadi..it's just too early to give up on them...inshaAllah I am definitely setting a goal for myself when I am done...

Sunset Eyes- I am trying to eat healthy myself. I am not used to eating alot because I have always tried to keep a check on my diet but now I am always hungry. It feels like I am eating tons on a daily basis which is not fun! I guess I should just stop checking my weight hehe

Gina- Thanks much! =) Pray that everything goes well for me throughout...How is your mom doing?

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

Congrats Alisha and Sunset! May Allah make things easy for both of and citrine as well, Ameen.

I gained 50 lbs as well (5 lbs during the first tri as i didnt have much of morning sickness and was always starving). By 2 weeks pp i had lost 30 lbs. I am now 6 weeks pp and not sure if i have lost some more since i dont have acess to a weight machine at the moment. I am hoping to lose the rest of it by the end of this year inshaAllah. By the way, dont be surprised when your body shape is different after thebaby is here. Like you Alisha, i also think its too early to give up on my shadi clothes but it looks like it may be a bit harder to fit into them till i wean my daughter, atleast in the chest area :bummer:

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

Let's not talk about shadi clothes :( I recently sent many outfits with my mom to give out in paki to whoever needs them, as I have lost of hope of ever being that thin again, at least not for a long time. Funny thing is that due to morning sickness in this pregnancy, I am almost close to my Pre-Pregnancy weight (before my son) but will obviously gain weight now that I am feeling better. I am sticking to jeans & slacks for the time being :) Yeay for maternity pants!

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

i would like to also add reading the posts here i would like to advise if you do feel hungry alot in pregnancy listen to your body as your body probably needs it, each pregancy is different, my 1st pregnancy i ate healthy as i totally went off choclate and junk food. in my second pregnancy you couldnt keep me away from the stuff i had cravings for chips. both preganancies i gained the same amout of weight. think of your baby as it will need the energy from this food to grow, any weight gain can always be lost later with sensible eating and excercise, also breast feeding is brilliant i lost loads of weight initially breast feeding my daughter

Re: Weight gain during pregnancy..

I am not pregnant and not ready to be so any time soon but I have heard a healthy weight gain depends on your height and current weight. it can be as low as 16 lbs to 35 lbs. you should be following a healthy pregnancy diet which is important for having a healthy baby. Try to eat a well balanced diet and take prenatal vitamins. Your doctor will give you pamphlets and all the facts and you can even buy books on healthy diets written by trusted doctors/nutritionists.. I know some of this because I have taken so many classes in college related to this subject but am NO expert..only a doctor can give you the best of advice I'A
