I am having a guest over for a weekend and really need some ideas for what to cook. He is of multi-ethnic background so I can be very flexible in what we serve for him so we dont have to stick to desi menu.
He doesnt eat very spicy food but otherwise is very open to trying new stuff. He is a very dear family friend so we want to serve something very special.
We need ideas for 2 breakfasts and lunches, one dinner and one late evening snack round.
Hmmmm…include a variety of colors in your breakfast…a great way to do that is to include fruit. Not necessarily fruit chaat…but cut up pieces of watermelon, canteloupe, and strawberries…will add color…and it’s healthy. Here are some ideas for breakfast:
Breakfast # 1
Pancakes with syrup
An omelet. I like to add tomatoes, dhania, onion, and thinly sliced fried potatoes in my omelet. You can even choose to add sauteed mushrooms and cheese to your omelet to give it some oomph.
Fruit salad (just a few cut up fruit)
Tea/coffee/orange juice
(There you go! You have sweet fluffy pancakes, a savory omelet, and juicy/refreshing fruit. You have a variety of items…variety of flavor…and the fruit provides color)
Breakfast # 2
How about crepes? You can try getting premade crepes from the grocery store or make them yourself. Spread Nutella (chocolate and hazelnut) spread on the crepes, add some sliced strawberries and bananas, and roll the crepes. Dust them with some powdered sugar. Example:
Another option: If you don’t want to do crepes…you can instead serve an assortment of breakfast pastries such as danish, croissants, muffins, apple turnovers, bagels with cream cheese, etc.
Hash browns (They’re savory, so they will balance the sweetness of the crepes or pastries)
Tea/coffee/juice…OR…how about making a fruit smoothie for breakfast?
Breakfast # 3
If this guy is multi-ethnic…ten how about making ONE of your two breakfasts a “Halwa-puri and chanay” breakfast? You can do this either with the first breaksfast or the second.
Here’s breakfast so far. Going back to grading my papers. If I have any other ideas about the remaining meals, I’ll post later.
