Wedding vows

Re: Wedding vows

  1. I have never seen it happen at any wedding I have attended. But I have heard that it does happen once in a while. I have seen a few Pakistani highlight videos (taken place here in the US) where they were said. Rare still though …

… I personally think it is a very touching thing to say vows to each other… at every christian wedding I have been too, I always get teary eyed when I hear them..especially if they are ones the couple have come up with themselves.

  1. Yes - this one - EVERY wedding I go to, the molvi/qazi takes the time to say a few words about marriage in Islam and the responsibilities of a husband and wife.

…I have been to a few weddings where the “few words” turned into 1 - 2 hour lectures that completely deviated from anything having to do with marriage…it was like as if the molvi had found his audience and he felt the need to get everything off his chest. The few times this has happened… it has ALWAYS been awkward for the guest… for the couple…and for the couple’s families. Due to the long lectures…dinners were delayed and everyone was starving too. So awkwardness…and hungry… not a good way to feel on your wedding day.

Lesson learned: be specific with the molvi/qazi about what you want said at the time of nikaah … no shame in this…
