What tradition (rasams) do you people have for weddings in our family we have the ever so famous dhood-pilaee rasam where the dulhans sisters sit offer a glass of milk and then demand money and we also hide his shoe and then demand for money. Another is when the dulha comes with the barat he cuts a ribbon before entering and in return gives the dulhans sisters money (other even have it the other way where they cut the ribbon when the dulhan enters the house, which I think makes more sense)...another one I found quiet funny is that when the dulhan opens her jihaize suitcase the dulhas sisters get the suit on the very top... knowing this in one wedding we purposely put the most simple bright colored suit on top and the dulhas family was disgusted with our bad taste...we got a kick out of that one...so guppies share your family traditions...

sounds more like a business deal?

we did that at the mehndi..we put mirchai in the mithai n then gave it to the guy’s side…only two of them had ne before they realize what we had done :frowning:

when they came to say salaam to all the aunties..my khaala put food coloring on their clothes…it was blue coloring and showed plainly against the white shalwar karmeez they wore.

we dumped water on his brothers/cousins as they went to get on line for the food…hey at least it got out the food coloring

oh the best part was…when they all went to pray, they had to take off their shoes..when they came back..all the shoes were gone  they walked around for a good 2 hour (even when they went outside) without shoes until my cousin felt sorry for them and gave the shoes back :bummer:

Re: Wedding Traditions

When I came back from KSA after Umra i exchanged 5000 Irani Riyal currency note with 2 riyal Saudi currency note. I realised that Irani currency is devalued as almost 10,000 Irani Riyal = 1 USdollar

they have currency notes denomination 100,000 200,000 and million riyal note too.

I showed it to folks back home, no one was able to guess its actual worth.

I recently saw a new rasm at Wedding. Where brother of groom stands behind bride and groom on stage and constanty keeps hitting them with some cloths in order to annoy them. They demanded money from bride’s mother after which he left them alone. Quite bizarre :vivo: never seen this at any other wedding
