thanks in advance…

Re: Card Ideas

just google "wedding invitations"... you'll get a 1001 options!

Invitations are often overlooked at Asian Weddings. Whereas my personal opinion is that they are one of the most important things (but then again being a perfectionist I think everythin is important!!!). They are your guests first impression of your wedding and they will make assumptions as to what kind of wedding you will have based on the invite.

Here’s some designs I like…

But my my favourite are hand-made by an american lady who owns the wedding invite company momental designs. I think they are breathtakingly stunning invites. Here are some examples.

Re: Card Ideas

OOOH I love the top pic, with the ribbons BUT you see us PK people literally invite 500-1000 people at our weddings, a invitation like that would cost a good hundred dollars..... lol

but I LOVE that...

as for other ideas... my teacher showed me her invite...and it was in a box, like a small pen-holder kinda box and it looked so elegant and simple and unique

Re: Card Ideas

an invitation for 500 like the top one is usually $45-$65 each, if made in north america. so its a lot more than a hundred bucks :p

Re: Card Ideas

cutest invite ive ever recieved was a card that when you opened it there was writing etc inside but it was a sound card so a voice like read out all the details. i think it was done by the brides father and it was just beautiful. he said like a dua at the beginning then read the details and then thanked you. a bit extreme but uber cute, must have been damn expensive though. was suchhh a lavish wedding.

Wedding card, suggestions!

i've already discussed this in my other thread but there were no active response...so thought to start a new thread..
Anyway, guys i'm planning to have the wedding cards matching to my outfit, either the colour, some motif from the lehnga..
what do u think.how will it look?
any designers here who can help me...guide me..?

Re: Wedding card, suggestions!

that sounds great! you should pick a theme or motif and carry it through your entire wedding... i designed our wedding stationery and we used orchids as our theme- we had orchids on our invitations, programs, place cards and favour tags. we had orchids in all the flowers and my bouquet and on our cake too. our colors were green and brown and we also made sure to incorporate those throughout everything.

i think its a great idea to pick a motif from the kaam on your dress and use the colors of your dress or contrast colors from your dress to figure out the look of your entire wedding. it makes planning really easy too because you know the direction you want to go in.

Re: Wedding card, suggestions!

aww, sounds really nice somegroovychick... im sure it would have looked beautiful.

^ did u get married in pakistan ? if so was it easy/hard to find orchids in pakistan???

Re: Wedding card, suggestions!

Shona if u r living abroad it will be easier to go with the motif idea or else you could go with a colour you can also use your and your fiance's initials in the motif on the card and everything else

Re: Wedding card, suggestions!

rabia, no, i got married in toronto. orchids should be easier to find in pakistan considering they come from thailand and its way closer to there than here!

Re: Wedding card, suggestions!

^ oh yeah, i love orchids...they are so pretty...i will look into it once there. thanks

wedding stationery

we’ve all discussed wedding clothes, jewellery, shoes, underwear, venues, florists, makeup artist’s, hairstyles, etc. in here, but there hasn’t been a thread for beautiful wedding stationery.
how important is it to you, as a desi* bride, to have beautiful invitations and accompanying pieces (menu’s, favour tags, seating cards, directions cards, etc.).
is it a large portion of your budget? would you like it to be? how do your invitations influence the overall look of your wedding? some couples use it as a jumping off point for their theme and décor, others use it to complement their ideas, and still others don’t really care what they look like, so long as they go out lol which one are you? are there any particular invitations or stationery designers that you heart?

this is one i came across that i think its lovely- it is for a hindu/muslim wedding and i think i’m loving it partially because of the letterpress- Studio On Fire // Design & Letterpress Blog
letterpress is a hand-done technique of pressing the ink into the paper and results in this gorgeous, tactile piece of art.

for my own wedding, i designed the invitations and accompanying pieces for everything- invitations were very important as both of us are graphic designers and just needed to cover that aspect ourselves. the stuff we loved was either too expensive or just didn’t exist in wedding stationery format, and i think in the end, i just preferred doing it myself.

*i say “desi” because most non-desi couples i know seem to take their wedding stationery a lot more seriously than we do haha, but of course non-desi brides are more than welcome to contribute to this thread!

Re: wedding stationery

I was thinking of making my own cards, for budget reasons.
There's this card stationary place near my house with lots of pretty paper and ideas too. The cards would have lots of texture to it.
The estimated price for the card and envelope (minus finding someone to type up all the text inside the card) was about $2.00
But since this didn't include R.S.V.P. cards, and the text as I mentioned, economically it comes out being roughly the same as a printed card I'd say.
So yeah, I'm not making the cards anymore, although it would've been fun.

Relatives have told me to get them made in Pakistan, but I don't know about that...I mean sure it'd be cheaper and you could possibly ask for any type of design I assume, but I'm worried about typos. All my relatives have had numerous typos on their cards, despite reminding the printer-people of the correct wording.

I do want R.S.V.P. cards and envelopes to send out with the main invitation...but I'm not so sure if I should have seat reservation cards, etc...I'm still debating the reserved seating option...
As for directions, I intend to just print them off of mapquest cut them up, and throw them in the envelope with the card. :)
