Evening folks,
my bestfriends wedding has just been sprung on us-it’s going to be before the start of ramadan next month.
That leaves us with limited time to do the shopping. We’re looking for some readymade suits, hopefully at great prices as my friend who is getting married is on a budget.
Can anyone make any suggestions for shops we should visit? We’re looking at shopping in Brum (Birmingham), as it seems to be the closest to us.
We don’t need the lengha as that is being shipped over from Pakistan.
We also need costume jewellery, shoes, and some groovy clutch bags.
Do we need to haggle?!
Next question: decorations!
We’re looking for ideas on mendhi decorations and decorations for the wedding day…again we’re looking for cheap yet cheerful ideas and possibly stuff we can make ourselves.
Any suggestions are welcome-I’ve never planned a wedding or mendhi before and quite frankly I’m scared senseless I’ll miss something!
Thanks guys.
Re: Wedding shopping, tight budget...need shop names and recommendations for Brum/Men
Ofcourse haggling is a must!! if u can buy a few outfits from one shop u shud b able to get a better discount and i find that going to sikh uncles first thing in the morning is always the best time coz they believe their first customer shudnt turn away dissatisfied coz they bring barkat to their earnings for the day so just a tip there. As far as shops go in birmingham (im assuming thts wat u mean by brum) sorry me no help, i cud help u out with london.U shud drive down, its not that far from birmingham.
The first thing u shud sstart off with is a notepad where u jot down EVERYTHING u need and EVERYTHING u have organised. Have a cheklist of some sort u wont miss a thing then. Dont be scared, planning a wedding is so much fun. U shud use this time to have loadz of fun coz its all about making ur friend enjoy her last moments =)
Again if u do a search youll find immense loadz of ideas for wedidng days and mehndi nights.
Good Luck

Hi Princess,
Personally, I find Birmingham a rip-off for ready made suits. However, Midland Fashion on Ladypool road has nice things, it all depends on your budget. Leicester has come a long way, I would recommend getting ready made suits from shops on Belgrave Road.
Even try London Southall, the long trip will be well worth it.
For Jewellery, try Green Street in London.

For ready made suits, try ladypool road or Alum Rock Road.
Theres a shop called Jewel of Birmingham just off ladypool road that does really nice costume jewellery and stocks kyles jewellery too. There is also a small range of fancy clutches available in there. You can get stuff made to order in this shop, it only takes about a week
Also for jewellery, there is Chohans on Stratford Road - this shop is generally a bit cheaper than jewel of bham
For shoes and clutches, there is sandal house on alum roack road, Bisma on Ladypool Road. There is Unze shoes in the Pallasades Centre in Birmingham City Centre and they have really nice shoes and clutches.
Hope this helps

Marika has got it bang on! named all the places i would! u cant go wrong with anything that Marika has mentionned! good luck let us no how it goes!
Hello,
just to update everyone-we had a trip to Alum Rock Road and we found loads of nice suits in Sahi-apparently its a new store with lovely jubbly clothes, and very reasonably priced. Go Sahi! Lovely service too, very helpful lady.
Re: Wedding shopping, tight budget…need shop names and recommendations for Brum/Men
Alum Rock RD, if you’re buying a lot of outfits from one shop they will probably knock off up to £10/15 off each suit. You have to haggle with them though and steer clear of LUSH - rip off

Went to Ladypool Road and Alum Rock last week
If you went cheap Mehndi decor then ALum rock there are a couple of shops.. Just general stores but tbh it was a little tacky had to really search for some nice items..
If you want unstitched kapra then Alum rock is cheaper
ready made clothes is a no no on Alum Rock but there are some nice ready made suit shops on Ladypool Road..
I didn't get a chance to go to Soho Road but I think the suits are more expensive but much nicer designs
I still need to geta dress fr a wedding and am thinking of Green Street in London as sorry to say this to any Brums but of the 100's of girls I saw walking past.. I only saw 2 that I thought looked classy
Ps.. We made our own mehndi plates.. Pm if you want any ideas of what I did for decor
@ Confucious-we personally found loads of readymade clothes that were of quality and greatly priced so will gladly give Alum Rock Road the thumbs up. Ladypool Road was okay...I guess it depends on what you want etc etc etc.
As for the hundreds of girls you saw going past and only two in your humble opinion that looked 'classy' I don't think that's a reflection on the clothes shops rather of personal taste. Just my humble Brummie take on things.
@ Inzi_rocks, we indeed haggled and got prices down. Don't think we purchased anything in Lush as the prices seem to be a bit out of our price range.

I guess it comes back to Personal Taste and gla dyou found some nice dresses on Alum Rock.. Agreed that the most reasonable prices found were there but thought the dresses were what can I say a tad typical..
Maybe I didn't go down the road enough.. Having been in 8/10 shops I gave up.. and took a trip to Ladypool..
Ladypool had two beautiful bridal stores.. with a stunning ladies sherwaani but she said that there were no off the shelp clothes.. all had to be ordered..
