Hey guys! A question for you all! when are you suppose to have your wedding registration, before or after the nikah?
Thanks!
Re: Wedding Registration/license
Well i had both done on the same day. I had my registry in the morning and nikaah at home with family and friends in the afternoon. Then we had our wedding reception.
Re: Wedding Registration/license
It depends, i know in canada you have to have you marriage registered before an imam will preform the nikaah.
Re: Wedding Registration/license
Oh really i didnt know that. Its different in the UK. I know one couple who had their nikaah done-like in the hall and everything but they didnt have their registry done until a year later. Personally i found that really bizarre but my friend said that she was stressed out enuff as it was and didnt have enough holidays to do that as well.
Re: Wedding Registration/license
In the US, you need to get a marriage license before the wedding itself. And the maulvi sahib who does the nikah signs the license and once you mail or take it back to the county office, they send you your marriage certificate. Thats all, no need to do a civil ceremony separate than the religious one unless you want to.

really? noone told me that… ![]()

actually thats how it is in canada too... i think whomever performs your ceremony will mail in the legal paperwork/certificate on your behalf. you just need your license prior to the ceremony.
Re: Wedding Registration/license
rimsh: ur vicinity will count as brampton, so u gotta go to city hall.. procedure to get married in canada as not that complicated..
The procedure for getting married is as follows:
1.Go to the city hall of your city (husband and wife to-be).
Note: the bride to-be must be accompanied by her mahram.
our city hall would be brampton, located opposite to gage park at main street and george/nelson area.
2.Go to the clerk’s desk and ask for a marriage license.
takes 5-10 mins if neither parties have a divorce/previous activity such as annulment registered, done on-spot
3.Provide I.D. (ex.passport, P.R card, drivers license etc.) and all necessary information upon request.
have like some bill under ur house address ready, credit-card bill preferred
4.You will be charged $125 (subject to change) and then given a marriage license.
this is for city of brampton, so you and husband2be are registered for common-law/marriage relationship (property/taxations whatever)
5.Contact one of the assigned Imams and arrange a time date and venue for the nikah.
6.The fee for the imam’s services is $100.
this is the brampton’s makki masjid’s fee. it may differ from masjid to masjid and imam to imam.

i am actually in 'ssauga but thanks for your help =)
Re: Wedding Registration/license
^ then go to city hall by square one. this is where we went and did pretty much the same thing as mentioned above by 'Confused' except of the part 'being accompained by 'Mahram' ..and i dont remember we had presented them any kind of 'bill' or something
Re: Wedding Registration/license
well just in case they pull out verification of address/2years on that address or something regards to that.. who knows what bug crawls up government ppl at time of your visit.. mehram thing is more like an islamic factor ..
rimsh: thats weird.. brampton's provincial elections showed steeles+winston churchill the city's limit on the west side, and showed 407 from that point as the divider for brampton and sauga's .. oh well .. any city hall will do ..
oh..and marriage license has a 3 month limit on it..
Re: Wedding Registration/license
