So I’m back. I met my future husband 9 months ago, we work for the same company. We kept it hush-hush until last week when we both went to our respective parents and told them about each other. He met my parents, I met his and today both families got together and we decided we’re getting Married in May.
We’re keeping it very simple. Nikkah and Reception on the same day and that’s all. So now I need help because the things that are really important to me are videographers, photographers, decor and DJ.
If anyone can send some recommendations my way for these things in Toronto that would be great.
So going through your list Im guessing the food is through the venue too since you didnt mention it??
What about gifts for the inlaws etc ?
In addition to the makeup henna services for you and your family.
For party favors in case you have alot of kids as guest, getting a bunch of crayons wrapped with a ribbon and paper is ideal. A kids corner towards the back that way parents with kids take those tables too and it keeps the noise in one corner. Also it keeps the kids busy so you don’t hear crying, fighting through the function. (parents appreciate the kids being busy so they can socialize in peace too!!)
A good place to shop for centre pieces, party favors etc is etsy. You can find some very decent gifts for real cheap in bulk so your guest dont just throw things away at the wedding or once they reach home but can actually enjoy them!!
Nikkah do speak to your mosque and make arrangements depending on whether you are doing the nikkah at the hall, morning before at the mosque combined or if you are staying home and your fiancee is headed to the mosque etc.
you mentioned you ordered your dress, do keep a few more handy for the post wedding dinner party invites etc. Pre-planning helps.
Have your decided on your maid of honor? you need someone responsible for all your gifts, esp if you get cash etc. parents get overwhelmed socializing. at that point a bff or your sister might be a good idea.
Even though you have the venue make a timed event schedule in terms of when you guys go in what time you wish to cut the cake, in case you have a couples dance type thing co-ordinate that, and music you would like sync’d with those moments
Have a bag packed of things that you will need whether you are moving your things in before the wedding day to his place or are your things going the day after? Make a travel bag so all your emergency next day stuff is separate and more easily accessible in case you choose to unpack yourself after the move.
Just a few things off the top of my head. Best wishes!!
The food, dj & decor are being handled by the venue - which is what we wanted.
So the way we planned our day is the Nikkah and the reception will happen on the same day, same hall. The Nikkah will be earlier with only a few family and friends and then we will re-enter into the hall when everyone’s there and there will be an outfit change mostly because I don’t want a heavy dupatta tacked to my head all night - I’d like to have fun lol.
My MoH is pretty much my sister, I’ve put her in charge of these things. Also, moving-wise, he will be moving in with me after the wedding so I really need to clean out my closets and make some space! LOL
I would appreciate recommendations for mehndi artists in Toronto as well as recommendations on the best place to buy a nice sherwani - Fiance will be wearing it for the Nikkah but we’re splurging on a custom 3 piece suit for him, my brother and his brother since it will be more useful in the long run.
Just finalized photographer (Big Al’s Studio) and makeup (Sheela Malik Artistry). Our parents added a mehndi party the night before so I’ve been looking up cotton candy carts since that’s his fave junk food, it’s going to be a surprise for him… I’m not sure how I’ll keep my mouth shut for the next 4 months! LOL
Manis/Pedis I get on a regular basis anyways… Facials - Maybe I’ll get one before but my skin is pretty good thanks to my Clarisonic.
This weekend we’re going to look at printers for wedding cards and look at sherwanis for him.
I’m still confused about centerpieces and favours. I thought about doing a donation to a charity in lieu of favours because to me at least it’s going somewhere useful and won’t be thrown out.
I’m looking at Fine Cakes by Zehra and Amica’s for Cakes… I may splurge with Zehra because I’ve heard her red velvet is to die for.
With the big day approaching I’d like to report back! We went with I Do Wedding Cakes for our cake. Delicious and beautiful cakes and very reasonably priced!
We went for a photobooth for our favours. I wanted to do something people could keep forever rather than throwing away money on random chocolate/candy.
Decor we went with Dreams Wedding Decor: dreasmsweddingdecor .. she’s relatively newer and very well priced for what she offered was. Basically I don’t need to worry about anything and she even went with us to the hall to pick out linens to match the decor.
All that’s left is jewellery for my bridal.. Any opinions on where I can get anything costume but still nice?
There area few places you could order online and have them ship to you. Have you tried Jewelngem or Rangposh? You can find them on Instagram. Best wishes for your big day! Mine is less than 3 months away and I’m in full on panic mode!
