How much do they cost and what exactly do they do for Mehndi, Shaadi, Valima? Do they rent out their own decor or rent from other places? What aspects of wedding do they cover?
Shay, a good wedding planner will assist u with everything! From the stage to centerpieces, decor, linen, favour boxes, bidh packets, bari wrapping, mehndi thaals, rasam thaals. Some even have their own photographers/videographers, henna artists etc.

plus they'll be there on the day of to coordinate that everything gets arranged as it should and that all the vendors get paid what they should and that you don't stress about anything. also pre-wedding, they'll arrange meetings with vendors for you and your groom and handle negotiations, etc. usually they are the point person between you and your shaadi vendors and they take the stress out of planning. i'm planning a wedding for next summer for a friend and honestly, its so much fun! :)
its pretty much as the above, but some planners like myself have evrything and only outsource very few things such as DJs and wedding cars etc.
The main benefit is that u I only need to research the planner, if he's got a good reputation then pretty much everything he does should be spot on.

oh last time i went to a wedding planner....and he said he will actually charge between 10000-20000 pounds..imagine that......kitna zaida he...its like unbelieveable

i think it depends- do you want full coordination or just day of? there are different packages. some will charge a percentage of your overall budget, and some will charge differently. i dont believe theres a standard.

think it depends on the wedding planner themselves, but apparently they can help you save money in other areas and save you soo much hassle!
im a bit torn myself, i really wanna be fully involved in all the organisation and i know the money for the wedding planner could be spent elsewhere but it wud be so nice to have a hassle free day and know that everythings taken care of right?

Thats what I want for my rukhsati. Planning my Nikkah was so stressful and I would love to have someone coordinate it for me.

theyre amazing.. plus theyre the only way I think you can personalize your event even more.. because they have the contacts and they have know-how .. my friend got one on her wedding.. She had her reception planned out.. and everything from her saari, to her cake and the backdrop were a certain theme.. looked amazing.. i have pics.. i cant post but i can send them to you thru msn for you to look at them.. lemme knw..
oh and cost varies.. depends on what u want..
There are different packages Shay, for as many days as u might need them. Some brides just need help with the mayun/mehndi and take care of the rest. But it's nice to get sumone to do everything for you! Someone as undecisive as me wud surely get sumone!

Maryam Ali is VERY expensive.. she quotes one thing and then she says "jitna gurr daalo gaye utna meetha hoga"- then she lures u into getting her fancy peacocks, the lanterns, candles, entrances.. etc!

That sounds like a great deal --when you say catering, does it just mean she will find you a catering and then you pay the catering seperately

No.. it means everything including catering willbe from her. but I think thats more suitable if u have ceremonies in Tent etc, while hotels doesnot allow any outside catering, today I'll ask her charges only for decore n arrangements. but no doubt her work is AMAZING.. i have seen some of her arrangements pics in magazines etc. so lets see what she says next :D
I've spoken to her several times, she even sent me pics (deleted them) but she is VERY expensive, she quoted me rs 2,000 per person..venue and catering wud be seperate. Then added for carpets, her extravagant peacocks, linen, flowers (more) and so many additional charges!

I need to plan my wedding too, here in CT, area, lol..Shay i'm on the same boat as you, lol...dont really know what to do, but im SOO Pickkkkkyyyyy about things, i want to be involved in every tiny detail, i'm soo ANAL..i hate it myself.... so i dont know if its better for me to hire one, when im probably still ganna be going crazy with the planner, or not hire one, and be even more crazy, lol.....how much do they charge APOX. here in EAST COAST
