I think they're fine for a few shots to give it that classic look but I'd still prefer an antique b&w over the traditional b&w. Just for that regal touch. Other than that, color is key! B&w gets boring after a while, no?
I just had my engagement photoshoot done last week. All of the pics came out amazing but there is something oh-so-romantic about the black and white ones. They look so classy and timeless. The black and white finished pics are my favourite ones. I think a mixture of both are necessary.
Its all about the photographers artistry ....but I do think its hugely unfair to the photographers for their pics to be used on this forum without giving them the due credit....even if it is for inspiring us!!
I think its something the moderators of this group should take into consideration and made into a rule.... What do you guys think??
(ps. I'm not a photographer myself .... but I do appreciate good photography and love to promote desi talent whenever I get the chance :P)
^ i feel that emotions and moments are often more strongly apparent in a black and white picture than a colour one. i've seen it in my own wedding pics between shots that my photographers converted to black and white and the colour originals- you get so much more depth somehow. especially when its a strong moment like a look exchanged between two people, whether the bride and groom, or the groom and his sister, or a grandmother and her grandson-- in a black and white picture, your eye is drawn not to the colour elements everywhere that can be distracting but to the heart of the picture- that look, that one moment. it can be so much more powerful and beautiful than seeing the same picture all in colour.
i think wedding photos should definitely be a mix of both and the best photographers recognize that.
i also think there is a big difference between simply converting a picture to black and white in photoshop, versus really knowing how to manipulate it so you get a good shot. some of the pics posted above are just converted and they look so flat. you have to choose the right picture to turn into a black and white one- it won't work for every picture taken at a wedding obviously.
