Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

Hi all!

My wedding is going to be in So Cal and covered by Samson. The mehndi and shaadi are there but the walima is on the East Coast a few weeks later. Having Samson cover that is too pricey and my in laws are opting for their own photographer/video for the walima. I obviously want the walima documented but I don’t know how to go about doing that when I have 2 sets of albums/2 sets of videos. The walima almost seems like an afterthought. Anyone have experience? How’d you guys work it out? Have a video of all the wedding + a separate one for the walima? Just forego walima footage all together? (it’s going to be a very large event 600+ but my in laws are pretty conservative so even less hulla gulla than a normal walima…just entrance (w/o music), a dua, some speeches, and cake cutting and that’s it).

Thanks!

Re: Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

Ah - I'll be going through the same thing iA (moving - EEEEK!). I saw your other thread, what did you guys end up on? Samson for everyone/everything?

Re: Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

Nah, Samson for mehndi/shaadi and then their side is getting someone local for the walima. There's a good package, I guess, for video/album + pics so they're getting all of it. Now is just the $$ issue.

I know you're suppose to be open about $$ with your husband/fiance but ugh it stresses me out and gives me anxiety like no other.

Re: Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

^ how much is samson charging you for both events if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

I don't know the exact amount but a little over 6,000. Fiance's family thinks that's outrageous given that multi day photgraphy is like 4,000K tops where they're from. But when I looked around that's how much most normal photographers were charging.

Why? Was I just ripped off? :S

Also, I know you said you're from socal...have you worked with samson in the past? If you have, I'd like to ask you some questions via PM if you don't mind. :)

Re: Wedding Photography/Video dilemma

that sounds reasonable. we paid $3k for one event with him a number of years ago. feel free to ask :)
