Guys I am about to finalize the photographer for my wedding. Can you help me as to what factors should I look into before I finalize? I mean what are the latest photography trends and such.
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
Important questions to ask:
do you own the rights to your pics after so you can make unlimited copies?
do you get a High res dVD of all your edited photos?
how many prints do you get afterwards?
will they give you a traditional album or will you get a coffee table style book?
is all of this included in their package or do you pay additionally for everything?
what will they wear at your event? This is a huge pet peeve of mine with Pakistani photogs. They’re a huge part of your event and showing up in faded jeans and a t shirt is unacceptable. it’s not a concert, it’s someone’s formal event.
what time will they arrive and how long will they be there for?
how many pictures do they shoot over the course of a wedding and typically how many of these are " good" shots?
ask to see a FULL wedding, not just a few portfolio shots from a wedding. That way you can see how they handle formals and candids throughout the night.
Trend wise, it’s photo journalistic style that’s in.
Not sure where your wedding is, but if it’s in Karachi, have a look at O’Shoot. They’ve improved hugely since they started and are doing some great work these days. They’re on Facebook here

Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
Thankyou so much..the photographer I talked to said once the event is over, he will give me all the photos then I have to select 100 photos (of each event) from them which he will put in the albums after editing. Does that mean that apart from the 100 he edits, the remaining ones will be totally crap? Has anyone ever had an experience like this?
And yeah I have talked to the photographer you have mentioned. They are not available for the dates of my wedding ![]()
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
What this means is that the photographer will edit those 100 pictures, the others will be unedited but they are not by any means 'crap' because they are shot with DSLR cameras. I know this because my sister's a photographer.
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
^ it takes more than a DSLR to take a good picture...
you're not going to love every single picture your photographer takes- its impossible for every picture to be a winner. so yes, there will probably be some you'll love lots and some you won't love as much. that's fine. the main thing is ensuring you have enough pictures to choose your 100 from. how many pictures in total do you they take, on average, at a wedding?

I looked at a complete album and I loved their work. Should I ask for more?

if you're satisfied you'll have enough shots to choose from, love their work, they're nice people and you gel, i don't see why you shouldn't book them.
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
Not an expert and dont know much about the technical photography stuff but on a lighter note..looks like everyone on facebook is a fan of Irfan Ahson:)

please advertise in bazaar talk!
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
thanks sgc
I've bookmarked that photographer. hopefully he won't be so expensive end of next year :D
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
I have a DSLR and compared to 3years ago I've improved a lot but I'm still just learning. I would never ever say I'm a "professional" photographer.
I can't paint, draw or sculpt but I'm a photographer.. would never try to get hired for it because I would get bored after half an hour xD
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
yeah exactly I dont want the unedited pics to look like as if they were taken from a camera phone...DOES that happen?
I think she was trying to say that the picture quality will be good and that it won't look like someone took it from a camera phone.Simple. Plus in average it depends on whether or not the camera is film or digital. Usually most wedding photographers use digital so the amount of pictures rack up a bit.
Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
^ they shouldn't, no. but the only ones that won't be unedited will be ones that turned out blurry, etc. if the pictures are clear, in focus, and good shots, you'll see them edited.

Re: Wedding Photographer criterion
First of all make sure they have a decent camera & check out the prints (how clear they are, what sizes etc). I know coffee table style books are really in so you should see if they are willing to do that, if thats something your into. Overall 'trends', i guess photojournalism is really in so more candid photos and more attention to details rather than just posed straight photos. Overall I'd recommend looking at different photographers work and based on their style choose which one you prefer
:)
