Im an hourglass and when I wear a mermaid lehnga...all you see is my top and bottom, lol.
For myself, I like longer shirts (elongates the figure) with a skirt that isnt too full. A longer shirt distracts from a larger chest and skims the hips.
Petit girls shudn't wear long kameez's, or super-heavy lehnga's.. broad structured girls that are bottom heavy shud go with long kameez'es and gharara's that have work on the bottom portion of it. Colors always help body-types as well..
