im very stressed about my wedding makeup at the mo as ive pretty much decided on the dress and everything else. im from mirpur in ak and all the brides i have seen have looked like ghosts!
has anyone ever taken their own makeup with them - i mean everything - foundaion, contour eyeshadow, lippies…and asked the mua to put it on with instructions? its the only safe option i can think of right now!
i'm not sure if i've ever heard that a salon will do this. they usually tell you it will be fine with what they use and that your products won't work blah blah. i think part of the reason is that they aren't really 'artists' most of the time, they just paint faces and don't know what to do with products other than what they use. they also don't like being told what to do.
obviously, you won't know until you go there and ask around a few places. an option could be that you apply your base yourself how you like it, then get them to do the eyes and lips, telling them what colours to use (or the ones you give them if they'll let you).
smile1, we have had this discussion countless times. None of the MUAs would allow the client own makeup and the instructions part can offend them. You'll be paying such a high fee to the MUA to do her job so hire the one whose work you like the most. Did you ask family and friends residing in Mirpur regarding this? I don't have much info since bride's from Mirpur don't seem to come back with vendor reviews.
I think a wedding planner would have the the best recommendations in this regard. I only found Blooms Inn having a branch in Mirpur. Why don't you contact them for any info?

At the time I didnt really have relatives that were familiar with salons there, so one day i asked my uncle to take us to mirpur and asked at 1 salon and for some reason they sent us to the make up artist's house and i just decided to go with her as we didnt really have any time to look around.
But she wasnt stuck up at all and did what i told her to, i will try and see if i can ask my auntie if she remembers her name and address at all also and will let know as soon as i can, when is the wedding Smile1?
You can get a hair-do done and apply your makeup yourself (if you think you can do it) and get false eyelashes done from the beautician as they give a good professional look when applied.
Let her use her own make up but take your foundation with you so it matches your colour. Then you'll have your own colour but the professional make up dun as well!
smile>>>> Why not? i think if u can do your normal makeup nice, u shud try every other day and keep practicing your make up as to how u want it on the day, although keep looking for a good MUA and if ur still stuck u have still got a bit of time and practice makes perfect. Good luck :)
thanks for all your replies guys! much appreciated.
wedding is in april,so not long to go now.
think i may just brave it and do it myself.
on a side note, i think its so silly that no salons offer trials. oh well, will let you all know how i get along. x
i hope you manage to find someone like xjatti2khanx did.
but since you have a few months and just in case you don't, practice doing it yourself so you won't be stressed if it comes to that. you've also got plenty of time to perfect a look that compliments your features, colouring and the outfit you will wear - something that is hit and miss with mua's as they only get one (or two) chances.
even if it doesn't turn out 100% technically perfect, at least you'll know what the end result will be - no nasty surprises.
i did my own too, including false lashes which i'd never worn before (apart from practice runs). just went to the salon for my hair and came back home and did my makeup. but i had always known i was going to do this.
If you speak to your MUA and explain that you may breakout or get reactions easily they do listen. If you are comfortable with your own foundation, take it along with you. Just know that foundation that's for everyday use will never look nice in pictures or video's. Your MUA will keep in mind your undertones, the lighting that'll be used and contour your face accordingly.
^come on Gina. you know that the majority of salons in pakistan do not keep in mind undertones or matching foundation to skin colour. how many stories have we heard of now with conveyor belt makeup?
Sabs, Shaheed Saeed, Ather Shahzad, Khawar Riaz all do. Most girls and their family's expect the 'fresh-off the white foundation-belt" look.. give them their natural shade and they'll say.. "meri gori chitti beiti ko kaala kar diya".
I never mentioned Pakistan.. ANY good MUA will keep u're undertones in mind.
If u're talking about typical salons such as Mahrose and Rose and Azmat's then most def there's no chance u'd walk-out anywhere close to u're original skintone.
