Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

So it is time for deciding about my wedding jewellery and I am as confused as ever.
So my perspective here is that now if I am actually buying gold it should be something more like an investment. It should be worth the price I am paying (regarding the value) but still not something I can’t wear.
I understand that some would say that certain jewellery pieces are just meant to be kept and not bought from the perspective of selling them later but one can make beautiful pieces in sterling silver and keep them. Plus I do have mum’s jewellery that I would like to wear and keep as an heirloom later.

I love the Hyderabadi kind jewellery. Choker and the long rani haar type but due to the pearls and gems they aren’t much of gold. The ‘all gold’ sets are good too but the ones I see nowadays aren’t that pretty. The sets they made in 90’s were so beautiful. I even like the contemporary kinda sets but again they are all gemmy. I have a few in mind but can’t decide coz when I put my finger on a choker, an “all gold” seems crying and when I keep it on the “all gold”, the rani haar seems end of beauty. Plz help me choose!

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Why not just get the bridal jewelry in artifical (a rani haar set etc which you like) and get some other nice gold sets which are all gold?

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Wow...

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

I didn't like the usual gold sets. They are all so similar and not-so-me kind.
Any votes for any of the pictures?

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

I vote for the hyderabadi choker

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

I love the hyderabadi choker and pearls lariyoon wala haar! As for gold investment you can get bangles, bracelets, tops, pendants etc. stuff you can wear easily later and will be an investment too.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

How much do the hyderabadi chokers cost in pk?

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Quite much more than other designs . The making charges are at the high end.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

in Europe / USA maybe it might be more practical for parents to give a down payment on a home...which might be a better investment....has anyone ever considered that?

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Im sorry I just have to say this:

Here, you say, your fiance is just as bad as the one in the original post (who’s a psychopath and wife beater).

And yet here you are looking for jewelry designs for your wedding…

unless that relationship ended and you’re marrying someone else…this is all just so so so disturbing.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

No it is the same guy, we have had issues and have had them settled. He is the controlling kind but I don’t think he would end up to be a psychopath. After a whole year now I think he isn’t that bad, I may have been wrong about him and that there is a phase in almost every arranged relationship when you are really scared about what you are getting and what you want and you might end up in misunderstandings.
P.S: I think that must have been the day we had our hugest fight! :halo:

I totally understand you blackdiamond, and there's a saying that even the best couples sometimes wonder if they married the right person. Good luck, best wishes and prayers for your marriage :)

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

I really like these three, it depends on your dressing too you know, if you’re going for modern stylish or traditional attire. But then all three of these are not really good investment wise.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

I had the same dilemna until a newly married friend sorted it out for me with her reasoning and experience.
I'd say buy the hyderabadi choker set in 18ct or in silver, it'll last for a long time without being heavy on the pocket...and then you could look around for some designs of your liking in gold which you can also treat as an investment.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

What was her reasoning and experience? Can you help us with it too?

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Thank you :)

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

Yeah. Can we know about the reasoning too? Just to be sure. :)

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

yep, i was just thinking everyone thinks what they have is different and their relationship won’t be susceptible to that kind of a situation.

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

One can't be sure until it is really happening to them or the other party doesn't show any flexibility. In an opposite case, communication and resolution is a better option. One can hope for better. :)

Re: Wedding jewellery- All gold or pearls & gems?

She said-- the studed jewellery(in your case hyderabadi choker set) will be worn occasionally, only in marriages, plus the resale value is significantly less, around 40% less then plain gold whereas gold can b worn everyday and also for a variety of functions and in various forms too, and if you buy gold from a trusted jeweller, then u can resell it to the same jeweller at the current gold rate with no rebate in the percentage-and gold rate is forever climbing, so you end up with more(cash) then you spent earlier.. this is the investment strategy....and it makes sense if you have just begun to buy jewellery.

My friend advised me to accumalate a sizable chunk of plain gold jewellery first, more as an investment to fall back on, and buy studded jewellery in silver or 18ct gold to satisfy the urge of beauty and intricacy :) later, when the gold stash is done I can indulge in the gold studed pieces.

I've thought about it and it seemed like a decent enough plan, and I was convinced when I found some very contemporary pieces in plain gold at many jewellery show-rooms, obviously there is a supply only when there is a demand and on enquiring I was told that they have many young customers who prefer buying plain gold and want contemporary, unique, quirky designs.I felt glad that I was not alone :).

Hope this helps you in sorting out your priorities.:)
