Wedding Jewelery...

Not the typical thread… but I wonder..how many of you wear your sona on a regular/daily basis? not just a simple chain, or one bracelet or simple hoops/studs but even the fancierstuff? i was insp by somegroovychick’s comment in the Raani haar thread, that u can wear hte white beaded haars with jeans…That’s quite an interesting idea, though I’ve yet to c someone wearing it… The trend nowadays is to layer necklaces (or amybe i’m a couple of months behind now :hehe: ), so whos to say that a (simpler) raani haar wud look retarded? Or wat abt smaller sets/chokers, or big jhumkay/earrings, or multiple bracelets? I’m talking abt for work/college/shopping/whatever, NOT just davats/weddings. If you saw someone wearing just one of those, do u think it’d look ridiculous or ..erm.. Unique?

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

nahh I never wore it, nor have I seen anyone wearing their jewelry on regular days.. real gold looks a bit much as it is... I prefer fake stuff for everyday wear...

I did wear 6 real gold chooriyan with karray and all with a completely black outfit once to work.. it was nice, but too flashy..

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

sara are you gonna wear your jhumar to school? :p

Re: Wedding Jewelery…

^ Lol ok not jhumar or tikka…maybe my haar tho :snooty:

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

The only desi jewelery i'd ever wear with American clothes is tribal jewelery. You know the chunky silver type necklaces - with just a regular white t-shirt or a plain tank. I don't like the desi gold jewelery look.

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

does anybody even wear their jhoomar again after their wedding? I mean I have seen people wearing teeka to parties/weddings. I have only seen one girl wear a jhoomar after her wedding and she wears dupatta, so she had the dupatta a little pushed back from her head so that you could see her jhoomar and her earrings. It really did look funny to me. What do you guys think?

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

^ I think that's why jhumar's are usually artificial because they really do look odd if u wear them afterwards , esp if ur not wearing a duputta on ur head... My jhumar and pajangla were both artificial, made to match my set. my jethani wore her jhumar and tikka and set on our mehndi..i thought it looked kinda nice tho :)

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

iv sin a few people wear jhumar after wedding, saw them especially after the song kajra re they were wearing it a bit like ash does in the song. it didnt look that good as the rest of the outfit clashed a bit

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

i've heard nowadays people are wearing just a jhoomar to parties with their hair open and down, and no earrings or necklace or teeka. its an interesting look...

sara: im hoping my mom gets me an artifical jhoomar and hand thing too cos i know i'll only wear it a few times after the wedding/mehendi, and i want it! as for the jeans/tshirt thing, i've seen people pull off their gorgeous chokers with a simple white tshirt and dark jeans and they looked amazing. i totally intend to wear mine again.

most of the stuff mum is giving me is jarao, i.e. with gems/stones/pearls as opposed to solid gold so its do-able for me. plus all the gold she's got that i might be getting, is dull gold or vintage gold, its not the bright yellow gold cos i refused that outright. its just TOO much.

plus, her chandan haar is just so swingin', how can i not wear it with jeans? haha

i think if you're going out for a nice dinner with your hub, or out with some friends, it would work. i don't know if i would do it AT work though- then it seems a bit much... but yeah, i would also wear any and all of mum's chandelier-type earrings in a heartbeat. and she has these awesome cuffs, instead of karas with her sets- they are sooo fine, i tell you.

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

Ive neva seen anyone wear a jhoomar after their wedding over here.
Ive neva worn my mums fancy jewellery for anything else beyond functions. All the jewellery i wore was my mums stuff and most of it is jarao which really suited my outfits. I know i keep sayin it but i will post my pics so u can see what jewellery i wore. Personally i preferred my mums jewellery and she gave it all to me after i got married.

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

I haven't really worn a lot of my gaudy gold that i got for my wedding, but i do wear these beautiful bangles that i got from my mother-in-law there a little chunker than little choriyan, and also this lovely long silver haar that has like three strands with jeans and a tee. I'll see if i can post a pic of the haar when i get home.

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

I'm talking abt OTHER jewelery, not just jhumar.. :p

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

I haven't seen anyone wear their wedding jewelry with their regular everyday American clothes. Though the chandaan haar somegroovychick described sounds like it might look nice.

Try it out Sara and then let us know! I am sure you will look great!

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

Well I wore my kara..it looked pretty nice :p

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

did you see the pics of it in the rani haar thread? MARRIED IN NYC posted pics of hers and thats what they look like! :)

Re: Wedding Jewelery…

i’ve seen alot of ppl [at shadis at our place] wear their wedding jewelry or even their jhoomers and teekas, i think it’s pretty kewl nothing wrong with that :halo:

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

yeah but we're talking about wearing it on an everyday basis :P
i guess in pakistan, people tend to wear it more often? its the environment more than anything else that dictates how you dress?

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

^, Yep, i would feel overdone if i wore my gold to work. A couple choorian are fine or karay but necklaces or huge earrings would look too out of place in class or work, wont they?

Re: Wedding Jewelery...

I wear alot of my jewelry all the time in different settings. I was very fortunate with my jewelry which came from all over, Saudi, Dubai, India, Pakistan, so I had some really different peices. When I was getting my main set I went all out I got the choker, the earrings, the anklets for both feet, the maatha pati, the bracelets and I use it in bits and peices. I had a polki ( uncut diamond thing) set that I wore the earrings to my xmas party last year with all black outfit and a maroon shawl. People flipped over it. I have worn other peices to other events and things. I wear my bracelets all the time in just smaller numbers, like two or three... I never wear all 48 bracelets. But I will add a little flar with a heavy ring and khara, or I will wear the choker but nothing else. Also, the reason I got a patha matti was so I could wear it as a choker later on..which I am alwys doing

But I also go to alot of art events where this blends in well, art gallery opennings, fashion shows, movie showings...
