Wedding invitation cards

So this is where you draw the line. :-) The same could be said to people who have a shadi anything beyond a nikah in a masjid. In the end it all depends on who's drawing the line.

I am in the biz indeed

Paper for home printers will be pretty thin unless you print it out and then glue it on to a thicker, maybe textured paper. this is what i did for a client’s table numbers but i’ve also seen it done on invitations and it gives a lovely layered look. for your invite, i’d suggest printing on white with black ink and then pasting it on to silver backing. you can get various types of backing cardstock from a good paper store or a store that sells scrapbooking supplies. its a bit labour intensive but if the store can cut out the backing for you or you can buy pre-cut backing, then it can look just as elegant as an offset piece.
in the case of the table numbers, i used a textured red backing and printed the actual table numbers at home and cut it out myself.
not sure if the image will show, its not showing for me and it says there is a PHP error with the uploader, but let me know and i’ll email it to you-

i found this UK store that sells all sorts of goodies for making DIY invites- http://papermilldirect.co.uk/wedding-stationery and you can dress them up further with coloured envelopes.
lots of these sites have templates too that you can design and print on which will make life easy, but if nothing appeals to you, i’d suggest buying a cutting mat and a cutter from a stationery store- they don’t cost much and you’ll get good use out of them.
so for example, size-wise, you’d get an A7 envelope which is 5.25 x 7.25, your backing would be 5x7 and your printed design would be 4.5 x 6.5. you’d paste the smaller sheet on to the 5x7 sheet and voila! the invite is nice and thick and you can still print on the smaller sheet at home.

Definitely design in Photoshop or Illustrator and use vector graphics for your damask print. And for digital printing, if you can, send it off to the printers. Where in the UK are you? i know a good printer in the UK if they’re near you http://www.sunflowergraphics.co.uk/ but you could also have them print and then shipped to you.

silver ink for home printers you can’t do unfortunately, as far as i know. and if you want a really metallic look then yes, you’re going for foil stamping which costs quite a bit. if you want a more subtle silver then offset is your answer. digital printing doesn’t do metallics.

there is quite a difference between digital and offset. digitally printed matte cards might do nicely for a wedding but because digital printers are essentially like larger, more sophisticated colour photocopiers, you don’t really have a paper thickness option. postcard weight is something i usually suggest for save the dates or shower invitations. digital on its own is not quite formal enough for an invitation to a wedding though.

such helpful info groovey chick! :)

Re: Wedding invitation cards

My wedding cards were really cheap, didn't like them at all but due to lack of time had to compromise. I don't favor spending a lot on wedding cards but I do like them to be tasteful.. so when my brother got married I had a nice design printed (which wasn't costly at all) and then decorated all the cards myself.. They gave such a nice look, if I may say so myself :D

I don't have any pics with me at the moment but I am going to Pak shortly and have the cards plus the material I used there, so will take and post pics then.

Re: Wedding invitation cards

SGC, thank goodness for all the info! It's really made me see what I want/don't want.

Sucks that you dont get silver ink : I guess I'll have to do with the professionals, also because I do want the invitations to have a good finish. I do prioritise them quite alot. If my budget allowed me, I would have definately gone for letterpress. They look so elegant.
However, thank you for the link that you've shown me! I am from London, so the printers are not too far from me at all! :) Will definately be going up there and discussing my options. If not, I'm coming Toronto to you :) It's like my second home.

I'd be grateful if you could send me that picture, however, since it didn't show up.

I have checked the other links out and the papermill sounds perfect! Though its not in London, i could always go and check it out.

Thanks again hun xx
