I am considering having my wedding at my parents’ home. Could use suggestions or perspectives on what to expect, what to look out for, alternatives, etc!

I have seen this being pulled of before with a lot of elegance. Are you thinking an outdoor wedding or indoor? If you are having a spring wedding (and if you have a big yard), I would suggest getting a marquee set up for your reception.
The alternative is of course to hire out a function hall, however, if you are having an intimate wedding and prefer doing it at your parents house it can definitely work. I think that would be the biggest consideration- the number of guests you are having and whether there is space to pull it off.

Mine was in my parents’ house and it rocked…at my insistence 
Tips:
-Plan veryyyy carefully for the # of people…do not think you can “squeeze” people in because in a house…squeezing is not an option. People need space…estimate the # of people and subtract 10…that is the # you can comfortably fit.
-Rent nice chairs…its worth it.
-Decorate to the max…there’s something deliciously fun about decorating a house…you can go OTT but it will never look OTT
-Plan seating…where women will be, men will be.
-Rent sound system for the Nikah, set it up and test it before the event.
-Get a professional cleaning service to come out before and after.
I think at home weddings need more attention to detail because you have no hired help like you would in a restaurant or hotel. Or you can always hire help for the day.
