Hey everyone! Im getting married this december inshAllah..who else is getting married in december? Ive been going through posts and topics on gupshup forum since about a year now (and was too lazy to make an account) but since it was and still is LOADS of help to me for my shadi preps i thought i’d be a part of it and share thoughts/give suggestions to others too!
So, how many of you are getting married this december and how are the taiyaari’s coming along…picking up pace after eid?
Where are you getting your makeup, clothes, photography etc from?

Hey, congrats on getting married! I am not getting married, although I dont mind guiding you on the makeup front as I am a freelance makeup artist :)
For your facepowder, it depends on your skin type, and your requirements. How often are you likely to wear powder and what occassion is it for? Also what sort of foundation would you be wearing, as that is the key to getting the right sort of finish with the powder!
Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
Thanks glossblushliner! I have combinational skin, my nose/forehead gets acne sometimes, and my cheeks(the part right on the sides of my nose) are kinda dry...the rest is fine:s i dont use makeup at all, except for when i go out. Ive just used foundation once in my life, and that too, just for my nikah! :) So i guess you get the picture :) I basically want something very light, which does not give a cakey effect-and gives a nice clear finish and glow.. Ive just started to used lancome face powder and face shimmer, but its okay...not something that im super happy with :s So im confused..

Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
hey congrats on ur upcoming wedding!! :) im not getting married... yet lol but i was wondering where in the world are u getting married? do u think it will snow? one of my close friend's sister got married in dec and it snowed and looked so magical
Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
hello, congrats Aeysha88 on getting married soon! im not exactly getting married in december, but pretty close, end of november in khi. im living overseas at the moment, so havent really bought shadi clothes and stuff, will get them once im in pak, i did however get makeup and photography booked via friends and relatives living in pak.
in terms of makeup, im going for light natural makeup, have booked Cistre at sheratons (i havent seen any brides from there, but ive heard good reviews so im just going with my gut instinct on this one) , if the makeup doesnt turn out good, well... i'll just wash it off and do it myself :)
Portrait photography for wedding is to be done by Kashif Rashid (kbridals) and event coverage by WSSA photography. i just love their candid shots and photojournalistic coverage.
Because i couldnt get clothes made here , i focused on shopping for makeup and accessories, and other stuff that i thought would be useful for me after wedding,
for makeup, ive shopped mostly at sephora and MAC.
in terms of accessories, ive got a few clutches which i figured will go with shalwar kameezs and stuff after shadi. red , purple , gold in colour. from guess, aldo accesories and kenneth cole . theyre pretty affordable i think and durable as well.
for jewellry ive bought mostly artificial sets, western styled , and only a couple of gold and silver sets with real stones .
in terms of jewelry for the wedding, im pretty cluless as to what i shoud be wearing, i have a few sets given to me by my mother and aunts, but since i havent bought my shadi dress yet, i dont know if they will match :\ and i dont like wearing bright gold, its too bright , and i end up looking dark ...
i am also pretty clueless as to where i am going to buy my wedding dress since im arriving just 2 weeks prior to the event and have no chance or time to get it made. i suppose i will just have to go to tariq road and gulf and buy something on the spot. for some odd reason im not too fussed about my wedding dress either, anything dark red or maroon with the right amount of kaam will do. for the valima ...well im planning on wearing dark green , lets see if i can find something that works for me :\
i know i should be more organized and fussed about my wedding preps, but im surprisingly calm and not too worried about how things will progress. im kind of sure things will all sort out in the end God willing. for now im just relaxing , trying to eat healthy and planning my dholki/mehendi which is scheduled for next week. its kind of fun being a bride to be, not as stressful as i thought it would be :)
anyway, hope everyone's upcoming preps and weddings themselves go smoothly as planned :)
Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
@ lipstick: Im from Karachi..and im glad it doesnt snow here:p but you never know about winter rain! Im sure it would be magical but with the photography and food and makeup and an outdoor venue...it might be completely opposite too hahaha so im HOPING for NO WINTER RAIN! :)
@tranquil: Im glad you're such a chilled bride:) InshAllah all will go well. Im sure you'll find something beautiful for your wedding and valima, you must check out Rimjhim, Mohsin and Zardozi too. Even Think Pink. They all have ready to wear lehengas-you'll just have to get the shirt stitched and they'll do that for you...just dont give them the exact wedding date! Tell them you need it in 5 days or a week or something. I've ordered my Valima Jora from Rimjhim too...
I dont think you should worry about the dress and your set matching: If your jewelery is gold/kundan or polki then it will pretty much go with every outfit. And if your happy and glowing anyway, the dress, jewelery, makeup, ALL WOULD LOOK PERFECT ANYWAY! :d
Jewellery is from a Dubai based designer called Yasmin Valika. The other stuff is all from my mom and nani, and i bought bangles from Dubai too.
Im making my jora myself (yes, i was willing to take the risk since I just graduated and im not working, so thought of designing it myself) so keeping my fingers crossed about that! Makeup and photography by Nina Alam (Since I didnt want any cakey-plastered makeup either!) I dont use makeup as such, so too much foundation, big hairdos and dramatic eyes are so not me...:) Ive been buying shoes and clutches off and on, some from Pakistan and the rest from Dubai. My dad keeps visiting Dubai often, so he'll be getting my perfumes and makeup from there. Accessories etc i still need to get!
All the best for your preps too, if you need any help you're free to contact me, another clueless bride-to-be:p Hope the dholkis and Mehndi go well :)

Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
im getting married in december too and the preparations have finally picked pace :)
id b getting married in dubai but most of my shopping has been done from karachi.
i flew to karachi in April and ordered my baraat jora from rimjhim and mehndi from zardozi. my saas is getting the valima jora designed from some lady called misbah.
i arranged for someone to fly down my mehndi jora recently and it is prettier than what we expected and just as we designed it! so im completely satisfied. though i am slightly tensed about the wedding jora from rimjhim because there were about 5 of us deisgning it together and now that i think of it, i cnt really recall what we designed and how its gonna turn out :$ i have faith in rimjhim though so i know they wnt let me down.
the halls, stage, videographer all have been booked except for my make up artist, which is something i cnt stop panicking about! i dnt know much about pakistani make up artists here in dubai, im updated with the ones who are available here but i dnt know how much i cud rely on them. im thinking of going for allenora, any reviews?
still need to buy jewellery set for the baraat, checked out dubai bazaar but all they got is polki which isnt wat im looking for, so hoping to find smthng when i fly to karachi next week to get my baraat jora and make final preps!
if anyone needs details or guide to planning a wedding in dubai, contact me, ive learnt getting married in dubai can be quite a pain especially if u initially have NO idea! we started off with planning and preps in january itself which is y i feel i know enuff by now,.
best of luck with the preparations december brides :)
Re: Wedding in Dec 2010
Good to know that all your preps are on schedule! My Valima Jora is from Rimjhim too and they have beautiful stuff :)
Btw do check out Gold House (Its near Rimjhim when you go towards Gulf Shopping Mall) and they have good jewellery. They have alot of Kundan Polki and even other gold/stone stuff so im sure you'll find something good...Otherwise Chottani and Naurattan are good options...
All the best for your bridal jora and im sure it will turn out amazing! Do let me know how it is :)
