Wedding help: Gold buying

Halloo everyone! So this is my first ever post on GS- I must say I’ve been stalking- errr I mean reading all your stories and experiences and greatly appreciate all your efforts!

So before delving right into my topic, just some background info: I am an American Pakistani, haven’t been pak for roughly 24 years, just got engaged to an amazing (and very traditional) Pakistani(Alhum). Soo planning a Pakistani wedding from overseas, without any knowledge of HOW to is quite the task: PLEASE HELP!

My biggest concern is the gold “churiyan” that we (as in my family), will have to purchase. I’ve looked around here locally, but either everything is too ridiculously expensive, or just not.. something we like.. Does anyone have gold churiyan set pics or ideas to help? I would like a set of 12, but even a set of 6 will work!

Thank you!

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

Firstly, Congratulations!!
Secondly, what’s your price range? And are you planning a trip to Pakistan? I’m in Canada, but my mom bought almost all my gold from Pakistan/Saudi Arabia. You’ll most likely get a better price and find more variety there.
I would post some pics of my jewellery, but I’m not really sure how to upload pics on here.
The jewellery we saw here wasn’t really to my liking, so we only got a few rings here, but Pakistan had tons of stuff. I’m only sorry I didn’t have enough time to shop properly. Good luck!

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

for my brothers wedding we got churiyan from Aus and took with us to pakistan. they had company stamp with karet stamp and design was far better than pak. But we gt set from pakistan as to match with clothes. if u get gold with out stamp its hard to sell later.

but even in pakistan churiyan are expensive. on average 1 bangle has to be minimum of 10grm other wise they will break and cost of 1 gram is about $50aus and that is about 500 for 1 bangle and than if u want 12 you can calculate.

i got 2 bangles recently 22 gram each. i had budgeted to buy 4 minimum but i couldnt find so ended up getting 2 only but they are heavy and strong.

you will not get ready made sets but what i did last year is got 2 big/heavy bangles and 6 small (slim style) 10 grm each. both had similar pattern and colour so i start using as a set.

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

HI can you plz tell where in AUS you bought those churiyan?

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

GOLD is surely expensive . and if u want to buy some good and unique designs u wil have to spend a good amount but no worries the product will be urs at the end
try giving a look at some designers shop in Pakistan or abroad.

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

If you grt from pak it ll be 2000$ approx.6 bangles .and nice 4 tolas

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

Thank you @Siren! So my price range is $1500 to about $1700.. for a set of six. I used to live in Canada for a brief time in my life, and I totally understand about not liking stuff here. Theres a huge indian/pakistani bazaar here in New York City too (Jackson Heights), and while the gold here is good quality, the designs are really old and repetitive! My mother bought my Dadiama churiyan about 14 years ago, and the same design is still being sold here!
I’ve heard tons about how unique the designs in pakistan are.. the only drawback is that I’m not likely to visit pakistan until I go for my actual marriage.. in which case I’m afraid theres going to be so much chaos in getting everything for the wedding ready- that I won’t be able to really choose from a variety… It’ll just be like going into a store and choosing the first thing that we see (my dad and thayabu hate when us women of the family take forever to choose…especially when theres a time shortage)
Sigh..

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

I know what you mean about shopping with men. My dad is the same, though thankfully my husband is a lot more patient (alhamdolillah)

I would highly encourage you to do some research before you go to Pakistan. My mom went to shop in Pakistan after not having lived there for decades, so she didn’t necessarily get the best deal. If you have any relatives or friends you trust there, I would hit them up for a favour and ask them to take you shopping. Regarding your budget, I would definitely encourage you to shop around because the set my mom got me had 4 chooriyan, and 2 bangles (similar in design to the chooris, but slightly wider) and the set put us back around 4000CAD. My grandma also gifted me a single, really delicate looking bangle and that was $1500. This was in 2013, so unless the costs have dropped dramatically, I would keep an open mind on possible increasing your budget.

Let me know what you end up getting. This is such an exciting time for you! And Inshallah, you’ll find something you love!

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

$1500 to 1700 would be able to get you a set.

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

So i just purchased a set of 6 churiyan here from nyc- cost wayyy more than i anticipated(2600), but i do like the style quite a bit (meena style i believe its called?)- errr I’d show you guys… but how do i upload pics? @eastern11: from Pakistan? really? do let me know i would totally be interested!

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

Yes, Pakistan, but not very heavy etc.

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

meena work on bangles? sounds nice. there is an ‘images uploader’ on the right side. try that!

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

I just uploaded couple of pics in my profile (under albums).

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

^ Aniqa, they are very pretty! I really like the style because you can totally pair them up with glass bangles if you want

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

Thanks @Siren! I haven’t tried pairing them with anything yet (my mimsy put them away at the bank), but I personally love the colors, its not just all yellow gold, you know what i mean?

Re: Wedding help: Gold buying

Congratulations to the newly engaged, How I wish I could help you with this but I’ll ask some of my friends and let you know as soon as possible.
