Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

What are some good wedding halls that you’ve been to in this area? I’m looking for a place not too over the top (expensive), but decent enough that you would recommend. I’d prefer it to be in MD, and also get outside catering done since the food that the wedding halls serve is usually not very good.

Also, if you know of any good desi catering places, please let me know too.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

My friend who got married had her Valima in Maryland at the Marriott on Tyson's corner or something. It was a nice venue.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

My cousins had their wedding in Maryland. One was at the Marriott in Gaithersburg (it was some lake-side one?? not sure what it was called?) and the other one had theirs at Martin Crosswinds in Greenbelt. Both the venues were very nice and as far as I know, not too over the top in terms of the price. My uncle lives there and since my brother might be getting married in that area as well, so far we have Martin East, Martin Crosswinds, and Marriott on our list.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

also, most marriott do not allow outside catering, meaning that you have to choose a vender from a list they provide to you but you would have to call them and ask.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

My friend had outside catering from someone of their own choice. I think you should call and get more info from them, that will be helpful.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

You can always go with Ravi Kabab - they provide services in VA/MD/DC. They quality is guaranteed!!! When is the wedding by the way??? also you can look at Marriott (near University of Maryland) I think there's a discount if you are Maryland alum. There's also University of Maryland Ballroom that can be rented out (I don't know if they allow outside catering or not) ... I think Hilton will be too expensive. Check out Mariott near UM.. good luck!!!

Anything in Tysons Corner is usually on the high side, but I will call to find out.
Thanks for the info.

I've been to the Marriott in Greenbelt, and yes it is quite nice. I haven't heard of Martin Crosswinds, but I will check them out.

And yes, you're right...most Marriotts don't allow outside catering and you have to choose from one of their vendors. I know the chef who does their "Indian" menu, but his cooking is very average.

Thanks.

Yup, Ravi is what I have in mind for catering. Their food is really good.
Great idea about UMD's Marriott. I'm an alumni so I might get some good rates, but I don't think they will allow outside catering. I guess I'll call them to find out.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

I attended a wedding over the summer at Sheraton in Tysons Corner. It was very nice and easy to find.

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

Have you thought about Aabshaar or Chutney restaurants in Northern Virginia? The food is quite good and they have pretty decent banquet halls as well for a reasonable price.

Marriott in Greenbelt offered an Indian chef
Martins Crosswinds in Baltimore was marginally cheaper than the one in Greenbelt
Ramada Inn and Embassy Suites Near Baltimore Airport are also cheaper and either offer outside catering or Halal menu

Call caterers directly and ask them- Ravi, Aabshar, Shaheens or Chutney...they often get commission from the hotels and give you a cheaper deal...

Cristal City DC is least expensive by the airports- Crown Plaza Hotel, Hilton Convention Center/Hotel

BWI airport, UMCP, UMBC and George Mason also have venue space.

There are venues in College Park/Adelphi area, but parking and driving time will be an issue.

Good luck!

Re: Wedding Halls in MD/DC/VA

oh- and check out golfing club houses- I think there's one in Gaithersburg that's desi affiliated. It may be pricey though.

Also- Sunday of Friday weddings are cheaper.
