On the valima, do in laws usually take the salamee that's given to the bride ?
I dont think so that in-laws should take, Its the gifts that have been given to you and your husband so you should be able to keep it. I got to keep mines :)

On the day of the shaadi and walima, we got the money and paid towards the make-up and photography (which was alot).
I remember on the next day after the walima, all the family sat around the dining people (thats brothers & sisters) making a note of how much everyone gave and made a whole list. If people had given alot, FIL would take it whereas my parents did NOT even take a penny from the money received on the wedding day.

omg i had never even thought of that! i just took it for granted when my mother in law collected all the envelopes and handed them to us the next day, that was so nice of her!
